being a rufty tufty country gal , it always makes us chuckle horribley to see city folks come to a standstill as soon as city weather-control presses a button. same with all the gales, houses blow away etc... here its just regular business as usual. Mind you if the gulf stream switches off i'll me laughing the other side of my igloo.
Its kind of revenge for us for our economic misery & midges & permenant rain all summer & lack of cinemas & museums etc etc.

However i would like to add that my glee is not directed at any of you lovely boarders & if you need digging out of a snow drift , just whistle !

well,weather-man wils said there was a 70% chance of snow in my parts..

* whump * the high schools closed & theres currently a white out from the north, very spectac, I'd take a photo to show you all , but that would mean puting a foot out of the door. ? ha ha!
The council have even snow ploughed our little road, which due to public money cut backs is on the list of roads the will be attended to "as & when budget allows", (mmm public saftey always paramount then, Mr Blair you said how much for a war head?)

soory Finn, i wasn't really being serious about the youth of today cos thats a big subject, about as big as the current socio-economic, cultural political place that they live in right now. By Oik i was venting my rage at my own son, who has smashed my cooker beyond repair today in a fit of rage, because I don't like underage teenagers puking on my floor & using this as a drug hang out. I have a lot of sympathy for the youth of today, & am a very lenient parent & try to treat all the teens that pass my door as equal human beings. sadly this is often thrown back in my face, like today.

The son has since been smashing things up around the house, all my fault too, anyone there work for family arbritation?

Youth of today are nasty hedonistic little oiks. Just had a blazing row (again) with juve boy because i'm going away next week & haven't arranged sisters, dogs, cats, puppy, rabbit, parrot, gerbil, plant & house sitting in a manner which lets him have a week long party in my house. " i never get a free house !"..."rent one boy." grrrrr

zeep i think what was going on there was that they were filming in the actuall locations that the events took place, so holyrood was seen as it is now, rather than a pretendy olde one. the white tiley place appeared to be the actuall tollbooth prisiony place. creepy for the actors, cheap for the producers & a bit w*nky for the audience.

yeah prompted by all this discussion I (skim) read a book about it as well, There was lots of info which was new to me. Although it was symptomatic of a society which wanted to keep women in their place, it was clearly a class oppression too. It does sound that witches sabbats went on in some places, but these were probably no more than peasant folk (& liberal members of the other classes) sneaking away for an anti- feudal oppression hoe down.
What is so bizarre is that the witchfinders & judiciary used the same methodology as the very heresys they so condemned, people with 'special powers ' to find witches, the witchburnings just as much a bloodthirsy public frenzy as any sabbat.

There was one bloke in 17th C, burnt for claiming that the blood circulated around the body. A horse was burnt at the stake, cos its owner had taught it tricks. tiny children were also burnt/ hung/ strangled etc.

It never made it to the north west, we still had witches putting spells on fishermen etc, into the 19thC. but then we had enough to deal with in the clearances.
