General / Is it worth my re-subscribing to 2000ad?
13 March, 2006, 07:26:06 PM
I haven't renewed it since prog 1467 or whatever it was, november last year anyway. Is the quality of the mag worth my re-subscribing?

Cheers,

James

Re-reading Hewligans' Haircut (a wonderful comic if ever I read one), and the complete Caballistics inc. Now, on first reading in serial format, this strip passed me by a bit; I found it difficult to keep track of the characters or take more than a passing interest in the story. Reading it as it stands now was a real revelation - masterful storylines, big surprises, wonderful art (I have a great sketch Dom Reardon did for me of Jonathan and Jennifer at last year's Bristol festival) all leading up to a some sort of explosive climax involving Mr. Magister. Anyway, I like this story, and it definately improves with age, and deserves to be re-read.

I'm going to re-read all of the V.Cs, Zenith, Button Man and Avatar next - should keep me in good stead, hopefully negating the risk of extreme thrill-deprivation! Ah, 2000ad. Wonderful.

Including the weekly webcomic The Adventures of Blob, and anything else that jumps of the drawing board in my spare moments. Hurray! (Here's a random computer image I made about a month ago which I had to hand.)

Cheers!

I saw a lot of alternative comics lurking behind the more gaudy efforts from D.C/Marvel etc; which of these should I buy? Basically, I'm aiming to find a monthly indie title to supplement a monthly superhero title.

Something maybe cartoony or maybe Sandman-esque - share your wisdom!

Thank you.

I have not read an American super-hero comic for ages. When I was about 12, I was well into the fantastic four, xmen, etc etc. What American superhero comic (monthly/g.n/whatever) will satiate my deprivation of super-heroics?

Cheers

So, I've got the weekend to read them all, and get back into the thrill-powered mindset. Great!

I need to renew it. But, does it really make that much difference? It seems like 2000ad has less importance to me than it did 2 or 3 years ago. Ah well, I'll renew it anyhow.

i hadn't heard of that particular aspect of Mega-Cit tech before this week. What a kraaaazy place dredd and his mates live in, n'est pas?

i was looking through some recent back-issues of tooth, and in the nerve center there was an advert for an up-coming thrill, title on the lines of 'crouching sun, hidden moon', maybe. what happened to that one then?

Tomorrow i go to bristol '04. Right now i am listening to the 'flaming lips', my fav band (on the computers in a public library, with 'borrowed' headphones from school, oh, the trickery!), just seen the new metaphrog song/animation, most uplifting, and decided to post here to let you all now how i'm doing. Well, not bad, i did my French As level exams today, my 17th birthday was last saturday, and tomorrow is half term. And i have no piano lesson today, which was a surprise, so i get to skive and sit down contemplating life in the comfy computer chairs here in the recently refurbished hi-tech library. Ah.........

General / I say. Nice Dredd stories, what?

I thought the recent clone story was groovy. And this new one seems to be a classic in the making, n'est pas? But: who is the strange russian dude on the last page of this weeks story? A clone of War Marshall Kazan or what? Hmm...

Anyone see this new program on channel 4, Sunday? Anyway, to cut the story short, it featured Staz Johnson (artist for 2000ad, of 'killer' fame), and a dude who liked Slaine (a picture of said character was displyed in Langley-mode). Great!

quel suprise. the first episode of garbage (a mon avis) of 'i'm a[n annoying idiot] celebrity' and it was boredom. embarrasing boredom. mr.rotten was well past his glorious days of yore. shame. all for the money, methinks ( and no, i'm not going to watch it again!)

General / Tooth, a mon avis

My dad recently said, on regarding my latest prog (as he is often to be found doing) " the art in this story (slaine) is good". Encouraging. Aussi, my wee bro reads my progs at times. Nice. Fun for all the family.

Anyway; Samantha Slade. Hmm. Isn't it? I don't know. but the Carl Critchlow Dredd requires commendation (art-wise, and for raising my hopes up, if only for a second or two, that the annoying cheif judge hershey might have been assasinated - i think dredd as c.j would be amazing!).

I also liked 'From Grace', was none too bothered about Duram Red or Synnamon, thought that prison story i can't remeber the title of was a nice idea with nice art, and am anticipating some major plot development of 'Caballistics inc'.

Well, thanks for listening. Look forward in the future to me making a comic which puts various characters of greek mythology into my own strange and twisted 'Noddy'-like world (i just feel sorry for all the heroes in the euripidean tragedies i'm reading).

 Bye! :-]
