Ok, here's a diagram detailing the connections that are going on.
The only thing not explained in the diagram is this :
mIRC is a program you download and run from your desktop, like Word or something. Then you use it to connect to various other servers, just like Internet Explorer but without any graphics. It's only concerned with picking up text information, so is much faster.
PJirc is the program sitting on the 2000adonline server which you download and run from inside your web browser every time you click on the IRC Chatroom link. Similar in funtion to mIRC but is much smaller, and considerably slower. It is written in Java and should work on any computer that can run Java, wheras mIRC and programs like it are written in C++ and compiled for modern PC's.
