I've long harboured the suspicion that British architectural trends of the last 30 or 40 years can be explained by the fact that the architects in question must have grown up reading Dan Dare. And if you look at more modern buildings, I'll swear you can see the influence of Mega City One creeping in.

I'd have thought Hughes must have read Dan Dare. He may have been more interested in the Mekon than Dare himself though ;)
A quick google on "Ted Hughes comics" reveals that his dad ran a newsagents, which is where he got hold of them. It seems he wrote a poem called "comics" too. Maybe a stop at a bookshop on the way to the presentation tomorrow is in order.

Heck, we all take what we please from comics, don't we? So it's a matter of bullshitting about how Dan Dare is a shamanistic allegory, I guess :)

I'm very worried that I haven't had my booklet from Tony Blair through the post. How will I know what to do if Osama Bin Laden decides to target Enfield? Luckily I found this site which put me right.

"Gary and Pete: you were both here when I arrived, and I've been here longer than that."

can't speak for gary, but I'm pretty sure you were already here when I arrived. It probably just seems like I've been here forever ;)

a quick trawl through jampot's (it's a long story) posts shows I turned up on August 29th 2002, so I've been here a few weeks short of 2 years. I was probably lurking for a bit before then though, I can't really remember to be honest.

"My guess is a Justice Dept equivalent of Iraq."

Hmmm, let's see, a fanatical outlaw with huge resources at his disposal flies a plane into a building, destroying it and many of its inhabitants. He is declared public enemy number one, then the American government uses the public outrage at this attack to justify an attack on an old enemy, claiming a spurious connection between the two.

At this point, I'd direct your attention to the climax of "Six" in the Megazine. See where I'm going?

or possibly using Democratic terrorism as an excuse to launch an all-out assault on mutie settlements?

(BTW: Anderson's WMD are of course, all in the mind ;))

loafed about, did some arranging work, went shopping, took in a prom, went to the pub.

Hope your bug's not too bad Tanky. Here's something to cheer you up. Well, it made me laugh. I'm a bit simple, though.

For some reason, I find the sentence "Lindsay Duff is a literature graduate and researcher" at the end of that article immensely funny.

45 quid??? that's outrageous! it costs about 10 or 12 quid new. I'll pick up a copy for you if you can't find one locally. It's well worth reading, but be warned, you'll want to pick up all the other Moore books once you've read it :)

A year? doesn't seem like a day over five. Are you going to have a nostalgic punch-up with Timson to celebrate, Dud? ;)

Actually, I'm about 5 weeks from celebrating (if that's the right word) my second year board birthday. Doesn't seem like a day over 10. Oh, what adventures I've had in that time!
