Agreed 100% re: the likes of McG (both CA films were boring rubbish IMHO) and Tarsem (THE CELL is the worst CGi-based piece of crap since Tsui Hark's dismal remake of ZU WARRIORS).

Didn't Alex Proyas (THE CROW) come from a video-directing background?

Yeah... but...

Ridley Scott started off doing adverts. David Fincher did pop promos before Alien 3 (crap, granted, but then he made FIGHT CLUB). Spike Jonze did pop vids (including the genius SABOTAGE) before BJM. And would anyone *not* want to see a Chris Cunningham movie?

Same Mark Twain wasn't in that lineup of the LOEG; Robinson could've had Fantomex or whatever his name was nick a plot off him.

IMHO, the film's a dreadful mess. There are plot holes large enough to drive the Nautilus through, the editing appears to have been arranged by the proverbial infinite number of monkeys, and the script is nonsensical. Furthermore, its woefully miscast, and Connery should be set on fire and/or cast into a dark pit for the piss-awful, turgid 'performance' he gives.

So, in a word: sh*te. YMMV, as ever.

D'oh!

(Mind you, I suppose Dan'll square it when I have to write the "what has gone before" bit for THE EMPTY SUNS...)

DD has a long and awesome history of kicking seven bells out of people who mess with his girlfriends.

The movie was about the most box-checking generic slab of spandex tedium I've ever sat through, but it was nonetheless better than LXG, which is up there with the Roger Corman-produced FANTASTIC FOUR as worst superhero flick ever (and yeah, I've seen the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA pilot. Twice.)

X-MEN is too short and the fight sequences aren't very well directed, but otherwise it's a creditable attempt to add a bit of gravitas and real-world analogues to an otherwise pretty silly core concept.

The JD movie is flawed but not actually *evil*.

J-Bo-1, fave comic movies GHOST WORLD, THE SPECIALS and MYSTERY MEN*.

*If only for the following exchange:
"What about Death Man?"
"Death Man is dead."

Heh, my girlf got the DVD last year, and we went to see him when he played Oxford a couple of months ago...

...he was brilliant! (Rich Hall's book, THINGS SNOWBALL, is also worth a look - but it's patchy).

Still working on Amazon, but I'd recommend you cancel your order and get it off the webshop instead.

The next load of GNs - next year, basically - should be available (or at least orderable) through high street bookstores, much as the Titan collections are.

I guess you must've found the Judge Gloves, which are a pickup in certain arcade levels (usually ones where you don't start as a Judge, natch). With 'em, you can use the Lawgiver.

Without 'em...

BOOM!

Then talk about content rather than overarching type; don't say "I read adult comics" ? say "Have you read PERSEPOLIS?" or whatever. That it's a comic should be a SECONDARY consideration at best.

About the most efficient argument I can find is that comics are a medium ? and as such, dismissing them out of hand is akin to saying "books are for kids" or "movies are for kids", i.e. you sound like a fuckwit.

KIDS comics are for kids. Other comics are manifestly not, and I don't just mean PREACHER.
