Working from real people or photos for ref is Talbot's standard MO, though; it's why Kenny Baker appears in Heart of Empire, and why so many of the satirical characters in it are pretty easily recognisable* ;)

"The portayal of 'real' places in comics is always a mistake, mainly because the person writing/drawing the story hasn't visited the place or bothered to get references regarding the place."

Not true. Bryan Talbot, for one, heavily references his locations ? I know people who've helped him pick out *just the right* valley for ONE BAD RAT, for example.

And Jock and Diggle can tell you about the fun time they had legging it round London to get photoref for Jock's HELLBLAZER episode.

Also, part of the reason that a lot of early Marvel characters are NY-based is that Marvel's head office is, too ? and therefore the artists could just head out and get immediate photoref for, say, Spidey.

You know SLAINE: The Game was co-written by Pat Mills, right? It's absolutely hatstand.

Trouble is, that'd read exactly like it is - an 'issue' story; it'd need some really great writing to develop the characters to be anything other than cyphers to convey the issue in that context (a la the US superhero 'issue'  comics of the 80s and onwards).

Better to develop one or more gay characters and work it in as a subplot, I'd have thought.

Gay Judge = non-issue, as he or she would be booted out for unjudicial liaisons if it ever got physical, and under suspicion for flaunting their sexuality at all - just as with a straight judge.

Personally, I think 2K has about the right balance atm, and the Meg has a more adult slant, which is as it should be IMHO.

Oddly reminiscent of my favourite party game, "Bottle of Vodka".

Rules:
1. Everyone brings a bottle of vodka
2. Everyone sits down in a big circle and drinks their bottle
3. Someone goes out of the room
4. Everyone has to guess who it was

Hours of fun!

Anyway, looks like we'll be in the Oirish bar in the hotel on the day...

Sorry, dude. Unlikely for me, but I'll be at the nearest pub to the festival (still TBC by my drinking buddies) on the day...
