>> *Christ-child's name begins with a 'J' . . .

But Jenny's surname is 'Who'. It would need to begin with a 'C' for that analogy to work.

>> But as has been suggested before- there does seem to be a culture of watching the programme with the express intention of not enjoying it by some folk!

I won't dispute that it may be the case for some people here but, 'Voyage of the Damned' notwithstanding, this is the only episode of New Who I've bothered watching since 'The Shakespeare Code'.

With a title like 'The Doctor's Daughter', of course my interest is going to be piqued. As much as I would have hated it if RTD had given the go-ahead for a story featuring the Doctor's biological daughter instead of some sex-redetermination gubbins, I could still have appreciated the episode if it had been told well.

Now, I rather enjoyed 'The Shakespeare Code', but it was too little far too late. Apparently, I've since missed out on some truly corking episodes.

Yet even in the good episodes of New Who, there's always an element of RTD's smugness ready to annoy me. If it's an episode as naff as 'The Doctor's Daughter', that very smugness can sometimes be the only thing that keeps the whole sorry thing from falling apart entirely, which makes for piss poor drama.

So no, I won't be tuning in again any time soon.

Respectfully, yer Lordship, I quite obviously wasn't talking about any scientific impossibilities the script may have contained.

>> utterly pointless, unimaginative nitpicking.

Then how about if we ignore the plotholes and concern ourselves instead with the mawkish melodrama so favoured by RTD. The Hath drowning in the slurry pit. Jenny's predictable sacrifice.

And the music. Even NotSoDumbLass thought it a bit much.

>> tate is turning out to be possibly the best assistant yet in new who.

That's probably due to her being a far better actor than any of the others so far.

>> Well, to be honest I think they're going to be lambasted by certain areas of fandom however they approach this idea, so kudos to them for even attempting it.

I agree there'll be criticism of RTD's contempt for cherished notions or if the production team bottles out, I'm simply not convinced it's something that even needs attempting.

Against my better judgement for its obvious fanbaiting, I may well be peeking through my fingers.

Ah, I'm quite possibly misremembering that interview Bolland gave Ark.

>> And as for the adding of the Penguin to the background . . .

Although I've not yet had chance to look over the new version, I suspect the addition of the Penguin may have something to do with Bolland's disatisfaction with how prosaic Moore had written the flashbacks.

That's why Brian added the shrimps and offal: it was his attempt at making the Joker's flashbacks an unreliable narrative.

Oven-bake a large dish of mushrooms for about fifteen minutes and collect the juice. Great for stock, especially if used in gravy.

Pan-fried red onions in port are pretty tasty, too.

>> Or veggie mince for a low fat alternative to meat.

As an omnivore who lives with a vegetarian, just about every meat substitute available tastes bugger all like what it's supposed to. Vegetarian mince is probably the only alternative that passes the professed flesh test simply because, more than any other substitute, it's easier to hide the taste with a sauce.

I'd rather knock up a dish that doesn't need to pretend it has meat in it.
