I've seen several interviews with Manning that do nothing to give the impression his intent was to undermine or deflate racism and any attempt to suggest otherwise seems either delusional or disingenuous to me.

The only time I saw Manning defend his act was (I think) on THIS MORNING. However, instead of explaining how his routine was, in fact, a misunderstood metatheorem using racist language recursively to deconstruct racism itself he wheezed an anecdote about some black couple sitting in the front row and how they laughed it up so, no, his act wasn't offensive.

I was serious about Bernard Manning, though. Having seen him live at the Embassy club when I was a coach driver I can appreciate that his racist jokes actually poked fun at racism instead of glorifying it.

My understanding of the Bechdel test is that one woman is conversing with another, and what they are talking about is another woman.

Not even that strict - just be talking about anything other than a man.

I think too many people miss this point. A film doesn't automatically fail if two women talk about a man. It fails if that's pretty much all they talk about. But as TordelBack says, it's taken far more seriously than Bechdel intended so to criticize her for other people's application of it is a tad unfair.

I'm quite fond of the Ice Age films, the only poor one in the series would probably be number two, but hell, they're all good fun.

Enok would beg to differ. He's averaged three viewing per day since its purchase just over a week ago.

Comments can occasionally come off as unintentionally crude (i've been a victim of my own misguided decision to not proof read my posts often enough) and once you've done the deed it can take a bit to justify to people that you only intended a comment with no malice.

I wince. Despite being an atheist, I fucking wince (thanks Dad!) any time someone drops a casual exclamation of "Jesus!" in polite or professional conversation. Likewise, my mother's total disdain for the word 'tits' has conditioned me to use it pretty much only when I feel like being haughty at those I presume would use the word contemptibly and hence my own faux pas HERE. Misanthropy is often bitter, yes, but it can also be a mild ale. Something I need reminding of more times than I should, by fuck.
