Buh, buh, buh... Im SURE it said i had a message at the board! Did you, for comedy value, use the subject header the board sends out? If not, i must be going a) blind, and b) senile, and b) senile.
Oh well, im glad nothing's gone awry. And dont worry Bolt, the copy of prog 0, complete with missing pages and transcript of ipc's original production meeting are in the post.

Wasnt spam, and was the latest reply in an ongoing conversation, so unlikely to have been deleted. I dunno, Bolt- did you delete it?

Website and Forum / 'My Messages' playing up

Hi,

I got an email notification that I'd been sent a pm (email had the content of the pm- so I could read it) but when I checked, said pm wasn't here. It's a day later and pm hasn't arrived.

Is it the snow?

Prog / Re: The break after Prog 2011?

Ochs, i feel your pain. While i of course love having a gert stonking hundred pager to devour at the end of the year, i hate, loathe and despise the three weeks between it and the next one. This year at least i have some back issues of Zarjaz to eek-out, and i can always nip to the shop and buy some trades if it gets too much. But i'd really, really love it if rebellion would commission original 'graphic novels' for the xmas market- or even just pump out some old-fashioned annuals!

But really, can you imagine how great it would be to look forward to a hardback, 120 page wagner/ezquerra dredd, or a 120 page mills/ ledroit slaine, in our xmas stockings?

Other Reviews / Re: Cradlegrave and Zombo
11 December, 2010, 06:48:45 PM
I'm inspired now to dig out the progs, and reread Cradlegrave. Loved it in weekly installments, and have memories of its clammy atmosphere seeping into 'real life' and colouring my existence for its duration. Haven't read it since, but may do so now, and either way it's one of the very best things Tharg has even shot forth from his mighty organ.
I blow hot and cold on Zombo, im afraid. I really enjoyed the first series- up to the last couple of episodes, where i felt the glorious simplicity of the strip was made needlessly complicated with the introduction of the shadow. I wanted the strip to remain simply about Zombo, the funny, polite grotesque- and the death planets.
The sequel did nothing for me at all, and even on recent reread in the trade, i gave up and skimmed most of it.
But as a CHARACTER, Zombo is again up there with 2000AD's best.

Prog / Re: Sinister Dexter

Too right tordleback. It seems some people have been mingeing on about sinister dexter since the very first episode. For me it's the very best thing tharg put in his pages after his initial spurt of genius character-creation, and following that time when the best he could come up with was kola fucking commandos and that thing about the guy in the wheelchair. Sinister Dexter is as synonymous with 2000AD as Dredd, Slaine or Rogue.

Eagle Doomlord was a classic. I'd heartly recommend the collection that MaryandDavid has available.

Seconded! And it inspired me to hunt down the further adventures of Doomlord in later Eagles... utterly mental, but some of the Bradbury artwork is phenomenal. And the whole evil son/ alternate Earths storyline was hilarious!

I'm pretty sure I can see Dirty Frank in the crowd shot at the bottom of page four of Dredd - nice touch. Except he's meant to be back in uniform now.

Except, when I drew it, he was still on the streets!

And, indeed, that bit is a flashback to "months ago", so he probably was anyway. If you see what I mean.

Film Discussion / Re: EXCLUSIVE - FIRST STILL FROM DREDD!

I'd actually say that the Dredd film script/synopsis is more like 95% of traditional weekly stories than something as uneven and drawn out as the the very 90's, bad era, Judgement Day. "Dredd" isn't Die hard, it's just something that was said for marketing purposes in a press release, it's movie jargon for those who know nowt about Dredd.

I used the Judgement Day reference just because it's zombies. I will see anything with zombies in it. Judgement Day would obviously be a very bad choice for film adaptation- be it Dredd 1 or Dredd 27.

I've just deleted a long thing I wrote about why I don't like the script- largely because I still maintain the official Rebellion forum is not the place to be laying into it. However much I stress that I "wish the project the best of luck", some people will always see it as an attack.

What's wrong with gritty and realistic? Some of the best Dredd tales have been.
It's not like they're making a Power Rangers movie, is it?
What astounds me is that you've made some major assumptions from a few leaked photos.

Bizarre.  :o

Not just a few photos. The script. Everything I'm dissappointed with is there in the script. From the very first description of the city, my heart sunk. These photos are absolutely right for the movie- as the script plays out. It's the tone. It's all there in 'Peach Trees'. It's not a Dredd that I recognise. I'm not saying the strip hasn't been like this from time to time- though I'd argue it's never been particularly "gritty" or "realistic"- but it's not the version of Dredd I want to see.

But others may do. And that's fine. Maybe we'll get the stuff I like in the sequels.
