I  don't even remember the original Ulysses Sweet (which my phone made into Useless Sweat there)! May have to look it out when I get home.

People who put the phrase "In Your Opinion" after I've contributed to an internet thread somewhere.

OF COURSE it's MY FUCKING OPINION, who the frig else's would it be? If there's one thing and one thing only in this world that I'm bleedin' capable of expressing, it's my OWN frigging opinion.

These people should be tarred, feathered, fucked, and burned.

This. A million times this! It's only ever the reply if you've said something the fuckwit in question does not agree with, and so is desperate to stop others from agreeing with you.

See also: "You DO realise that you're in the minority there?". REALLY?!? Oh no, I'm crushed and humiliated that you've pointed that out, and that I dare to defend an opinion that may see me as going against the flock. Baaaaaaaaaaaa. Now fuck off.

Read from prog 1 until Dan Dare started appearing on the cover every week,  at which point I dropped it like a wet poo.  Started again around prog 179 and read through to early 500s, at which point I left for booze,  babes and sausages.
Working in a supermarket in 1986/87, I was offered a stack of missing progs by a mate to fund his Friday night out.  Read and loved,  and read straight through to the end of 2012, when I stopped for various reasons. Early 2014 found me entering a shabby second hand shop in the Old Town here and finding about four years of back prof's including the entirety of 2013- which I bought for a tenner.  Still reading now,  and proud owner of the complete run.

I read the Meg from the off, but gave it a rest for one issue back when it was "Britain's Hardest Comic". Picked it up again immediately and- despite Tank Girl's efforts to make me stop (so close! ) I'm still here.

Nice to meetcha Dregsey,  and good on your son for finding thrillpower. Both my boys (9 and 11) devour the reprint collections,  and the eleven year old gets a copy of the prog every week,  along with his Beano,  Deadpool and video games mag.
It's probably worth you tracking down the trade collections of the strips you remember- amazon sellers could be a route to take,  as they tend to be cheaper,  and if money is an issue then most libraries in my experience have a stock of 2000ad trades to borrow for nothing.
Anyway- enjoy!

Eleventh Dr#1 is on my list for this week.  They're apparently  doing an Eccleston one as well,  no doubt with sixty bazillion covers each issue.  With all the best will in the world,  I can't see that working.  Stripped from the context of series one,  as it surely must be,  Im not sure the ninth/tenth Eccy inarnation would be all that interesting.

My pick-ups over the last week  include DARK AGES #3,   which was joyous and which everyone here should be reading.  It's not the most original of comics,  but reads smoothly and raises the pulse.  Culbard's art here,  along with in WILD'S END,  makes me wonder what was up with Brass Sun in the prog and whether that strip would have benefitted from alternating artists after all.

SABRINA #1 was very dense and entertaining.  Unlike Mardroid,  I did like the TV version (and in fact always enjoy mentioning it in favourable comparison to Buffy when someone brings it up) but this is nothing like it. The art is reminiscent of old-time horror comics from the sixties and early seventies,  bringing to mind Bernie Wrightson and Buscema/Chan. I think I enjoyed it even more than the first arc of AwA,  though as unexpectedly entertaining horror comics go,  the Lovecraft/Sabrina issue of AwA just pips it,  to my mind.

Winter World #1&2 were crushing disappointments, and I won't be taking it further. Was hoping for a snowy mashup of Walking Dead and Whiteout, but got instead what read like a mid eighties independent from Eclipse,  short on incident and character,  lumbered with the art of Butch Guice, to whose work I've never warmed.

Thanks to Dunk,  of this parish, I have also ploughed through CROSSED volumes 2-5. All I can say is "Christ!" and leave it at that.

Not strictly on thread topic,  but I picked up a nice, white pages copy of Marvel's Conan The Barbarian #6, by Roy Thomas and Bazzer Smith,  "Devil Wings Over Shadizar! ", which has been on my list for a while now. Wonderful stuff,  beautifully drawn and a classic story.  I am as chuffed as it's possible to be!

Great to see everyone again,  and thanks to CF for putting it all together.  Dunk,  I read the second volume of Crossed on the train and I now feel dirty.  So massive thanks for that.  Will be reading 3-5 later.
Nice to put faces to new names, and see you all at the next one.

A late addition series yesterday, in a pile of Batmans and Deadpools for the kids: Marvel's  new Thor #1. You know,  the controversial "She Thor" one.

Bloody hell,  what a great comic!  I've not bought or read any Thor in decades- oh, except Garth Ennis/ Glenn Fabry's 'VIkings' mini, which probably doesn't count but which was huge and gory fun.

On the strength of this I will not only be immediately ordering #2, but picking up the entirety  of Jason Aaron's 'God of Thunder' run as well.  Wowsers!

I'm just looking forward  to all the free booze, girls and sausages at SuperSurfer's wedding thing. We should all get reet  pissed up before we go though. And Burdis should wear only his comedy Zardoz underpants.

A couple I forgot:

The Walking Dead #132
Agreed that it's picking up again,  with the post-All Out War jump and the introduction  of the whisperers. This issue was particularly  exciting and I'm once again on tenterhooks for the next.

Dr Who Eleventh Doctor #3
Despite not being a fan of this particular  incarnation,  I'm buying this largely because  of the 2000AD connection.  It's fun stuff and I'm probably  enjoying it more than the TV show at present to be honest. Can't bring myself to get the Tennant comics though,  but will try the Capaldis.

Recent haul:

Wonder Woman #34
At bloody last,  DC finally get aroused to releasing the penultimate issue of Azarello's run- only two months late.  Worth the wait though. Next issue it all concludes,  clearing  the decks for a return  to superheroics and shiny, muscled, template  heavy corporate bollocks.  Sadly,  apparently Swamp Thing will be  a regular  guest star,  so I'm contractually  obliged to buy it.

Wild's End #1
Oddly like Rupert,  if Rupert were written  for grownups.  Best comic I've read this week.

Edge of Spider-verse #4
A cute,  Thrilling Suspenstories-pastiche that again introduces a brand new Spidey knock-off,  and sets up Marvel's  latest crossover masturbatathon. I've enjoyed all of these so far and have a box of tissues  handy, ready to lube up and crack one off with everyone  else.  Even got a nice little 'checklist in reading order from my LCS today.  Bring it on!

Conan The Avenger #6
A mediocre  adaptation  of The Snout In The Dark concludes,  with little to recommend  it.  This had better pick up soon,  but with Fred Van Lente writing,  it don't look good.

Groo Vs Conan #3
Loving this series- I've not read Groo before,  and I'm finding it very clever  and hilarious.

Spider-Man 2099 #4
Still unsold on this.  It's slick,  well-produced and full of fights and witty banter,  but I can't bring myself to care much.

Swamp Thing #35
Why do I bother?  Some old toss about the rise of a new parliament,  this time it's  machines.  Boring,  with boring art.

Also,  a bunch of Conan and Red Sonja trades.

Upcoming: Dark Ages #3, Empire  of the Dead Act Two #2, Red Sonja Black Tower #2, Afterlife  With Archie #7... all of which are much anticipated hereabouts.

I have an abiding love for the original Star Trek, and have really enjoyed James Hawley's Star Trek: New Voyages/ Phase II... but Star Trek Continues, based on the ten minutes Ive just watched, is on a whole other level. If I can find something for the kids to do this afternoon that doesn't involve me, I will be having a bit of a marathon. Cheers for the heads up. Wow.

Just taken delivery of mine too. It is absolutely gorgeous. Better looking even than the Marvel Graphic Novel Collection. I was in two minds whether to continue with this past the initial run (if it goes past the initial run)- but even though I have everything anyway, in multiple formats, this is definitely worth the added expense. Well done to all concerned. Seriously impressed!

Slaine: The Brutania Chronicles Bk 1 Now up for pre-order

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slaine-Brutania-Chronicles-Pat-Mills/dp/1781083355/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_3_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=1Z0KMKHCMWR7KZ463EQN

Great to see that this will be continuing the hardback line for Slaine, though I suppose the page length will put it more in line with the four Volgan War hardcovers, which is probably even better since there's no gutter loss on those things at all. Good stuff either way.

Anyway, this reminds me - I really would love if the earlier Slaine stories were re-collected in the same style as these Mek Files books for the ABC Warriors in the next year or so. It'd save buying all the various paperbacks for one thing, but having all the colour splash pages back in print in a book more in line with the size of the Prog would be smashing too.

Absolutely. Put me down for copies of all.
