I like mark millar's later stuff. When morrison's not being a mentalist thickie, his work can be entertaining too. Doesnt stop theor dredd strips being massively awful in every way.

Not so awful that, read on a weekly basis back in the day, they diminished my love of the comic- but in the context of the the previous umpteen casefiles you will have read immediately beforehand; yes, dreadful.

The world has indeed gone to shit if we no longer have the freedom to wish our detested political leaders dead. Am i no longer allowed to say i hope Margaret Thatcher dies a painful death then? Try telling that to my father's generation- or even just my father- and see the response you get. When you do, you'd better hope your beloved tories havent completely destroyed the NHS, because you'll need it.

I'm on my phone, so can't see those pages at the moment, but to be honest i cant remembewhat pages they were- this was ck in about 1986 i reckon. In the comic shop up charing cross road, roundabout where 'murder one' was for a while. But yeah, looking back i have no idea why i didnt buy one or two. Happy to spend that money on old bollocks that all these years later i wouldnt give you thanks for, and pvc trousers/net shirts, yet pages of kev o'neill art- nahh. Madness. Oh well, i wasnt to know... :-/

I should point out that, for anyone who can't spot stupidity, I am joking. Already this week I've been accused of attacking Holland, so I thought I'd best point that out.

My own collection of 2000AD stuff is very finely tuned only to stuff I can read. In short, the comics and books about the comics. Included in that are fanzines and the like- but not necessarily professional  magazines that just happen to contain some related feature. I didn't, for example, buy any of the multiple mags that did Dredd 3D features in the wake of the recent film. I did, however, find a copy of the new FRONT on the train last week, which had a one page feature on the ART OF DREDD book, a review of the movie and an interview with Grant Morrison, as well as loads of tits- so that was a lucky break.

I'm not fussed about models, candles, lead figures, games, tshirts or stuff like that- and certainly not the great swathes of gubbins that CF et al go for. Nor am I one for original art- I'm severely limited in funds, so that kind of thing is out of the question. I'll happily accept sketches from droids if I meet them, and have paid for a commission from one (oddly, not for a 2000AD-related drawing) but actual pages from the comic... the time to get into that has passed. I remember seeing pages from The Cursed Earth and Nemesis by McMahon and O'Neill on sale for £25 each back in the 80s- that would have been the time to start. And I can't help thinking that if I started with original art, it would have to be a goal- to get a complete prog, or something similar. Has anyone here done that?

So- whatever you collect and however much you have at the moment, it's all good. Alongside the 2000AD obsession, I have a parallel fixation for Romero and, wider, for zombies in general- so a lot of that stuff gets bought. And I also buy a lot of comics unrelated to 2000AD as well. On the other hand, I don't drink, smoke or buy music... so it's not as excessive an outlay as you may think.

When you say foreign titles with original art, do you mean they should retain the original art of the UK version with foreign text overlaid, or that out there you can find original Judge Dredd material that was drawn and written abroad and intended for that country, in another language? I'm not counting anglophone countries in my estimation of "abroad" here because you wouldn't need to change the text.

I'm referring to the likes of DC's Judge Dredd and Legends of the Law, Dark Horse's Dredd Vs Aliens: Incubus and Predator Vs Dredd, and the upcoming IDW Dredd series.

For the perfect score, you need reprints with new, or changed art- like Titan's Cursed Earth volumes, Eagle's Nemesis necro-series and the foreign Slaine: Books of Invasions/ ABC Warriors: The Volgan War. However, buying a bunch of 'Best of 2000AD's and foreign Dredds with new covers doesn't gain you points- but equally doesn't lose you any. If the text is only translated into foreign it remains a nice addition to your collection, but not a point-gatherer.

80% of the 'Cellar of Mental' loses points, leaving Commando Forces with a negative score the like of which is rarely seen in comics-fandom. Well done!

Too many squaxx are obsessed with all manner or plastic tat. There is such a thing as a 'perfect' collection- this comprises of every single issue of the weekly, the meg, the specials, the spin-offs and foreign titles THAT FEATURE ORIGINAL SEQUENTIAL ART. For the 'perfect' score, you much also own each and every reprint comic in which the art has been subtley changed by the artist to suit the new format. No points are deducted for owning issues or trades or reprint comics that just feature new cover art- but equally, no points are added. Points ARE deducted for plastic tat and little lead figures. This means that my collection is 99.93% there, and the likes of Commando Forces and chums may as well have entire rooms dedicated to Razzle for all the good it'll do them when the final scores are tallied on our death beds.

How'd the advice work out for you?  Toes on the mend?  I hope you're doing better.  I know what it's like to have an injury never fully heal.  It's awful.
Best wishes to you.

TOES ON THE MEND! Still painful, but I'm able to get about without mincing. Didn't get home from work in time to get to the post office today- but the parcels are packed and ready to go as soon as I can get there! And thanks for the kind words, and concern.

No, Inferno's great- but i read that fairly recently anyway. I was referring to the not-Carlos art. Specifically that which comes from the Megazine. Ive read it all before, in the comics as they were published, so have already survived the writing. But this time, just the art has put me off im afraid.

And yeah- free the case files 20 now! (or soon, anyway)

Robo K33F, get your beautiful lips over here pronto- they're in for a snogging!

Many thanks- that's great news. Seriously, im shocked, as ii thought with it being an old ipc reprint, you'd not have the rights. Very impressed. I'll have to buy multiples now, as there are birthdays coming up and lapsed-squaxx will appreciate this...

Just realised i've still not read this. It's been on my shelf for ages now, and everytime i pick it up and vow to give it a go, the art puts me off. They should really get 20 out asap... (i'm hoping that 20 will be more... attractive upon perusal).
