Film & TV / Re: On telly this week

I see Mr Robot has started on UK telly now (Universal I think?), have been watching it on Amazon Prime (they're up to season 2 now) and loving it, it's really very good, recommend it!

Contact your mp and ask them how many innocents killed in a nuclear fire would be too many.
I think I know the answer my MP would give already (in the last year he's become famous nationally and internationally and bears a resemblance to Ben Obi Wan Kenobi).

Well, when asked if she was prepared to authorize the killing of "a hundred thousand innocent men, women and children", Theresa May answered yes, so there's little doubt what she wrote in her letter of last resort.

What kind of a sociopath can calmly answer yes to that question?!

Oooh that reminds me I still have the DLC sitting unplayed for that. I really did enjoy the main game, certainly much more than the first two. It finally feels like the 'Fantasy Mass Effect' series I always wanted it to be.

Have never done a board game kickstarter but backed this - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evildead2/evil-dead-2-the-official-board-game

- and the campaign seems to be going pretty good, really liking the look of it.

Worst case scenario the board game isn't a classic, but the words Evil Dead pretty much secured my purchase anyway if I'm honest.

I'm probably in the minority here, but personally I've been enjoyed Saul even more than Breaking Bad. It's fantastic!

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

We watched the remake of Total Recall last night, and if I'm honest enjoyed it a lot more than expected. That's not to say it was great, but as a bit of throwaway sci-fi action escapism on a hungover Sunday it was a decent enough couple of hours. Very forgettable, particularly as when it finished and we switched back to TV Dredd was on and reminded us what a really great movie is like.

One thing about TR - the use of lens flare is insane. It's so over the top and ridiculous that once you notice it it's hard to see anything else. I'm usually fine with it, it can look very stylish but it's overused to quite unintentionally comedic effect here.

Music / Re: Upcoming Gigs

Yeah a friend of mine works in the electronics dept in Guitar Guitar and they had Steve Davis in quite recently buying synths and gear for some sort of show he was playing at. I had no idea he was so into music, and apparently a very nice chap to boot.

Just got tickets for Arctangent Festival - http://www.arctangent.co.uk/

I've actually never done the full festival experience, I've been to 2 day things but always gone back to a bed at night, so this'll be the first time I've done the whole 'camp for 4 days' thing. Going with a good gang of mates and my wife is a seasoned Leeds Fest veteran so hopefully they can look after me!

Have always wanted to see GYBE and ASIWYFA so that's a big draw, and the fact I'm unfamiliar with most of the lineup is quite exciting.

Still have 11.22.63 sitting to watch, really liked the book so hopefully they've done a good job of it.

Recently binged through season 1 of Mr Robot and now completely hooked, new episodes start tonight!

Gwent has apparently proved so popular that it's getting it's own standalone game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Kmz8-jJ7HM

Have Witcher 2&3 sitting ready to play, have heard great things about both but found the first game a real slog so am giving it some time before I jump back in!

Yeah I have Witcher 1 & 2 but have kind of given up on 1 after fighting some bloody stupid dogs and discovering some complex crafting thing I can't be arsed with.

That's probably one of my biggest problems with the first game, there are a lot of really fiddly systems (like the crafting) and none of them are adequately explained. The other problem is I found the combat absolutely appalling. I really enjoyed the world and the story and got really into that aspect of it, but anytime a fight broke out (which is often) I was grinding my teeth in preparation for the slog of it.

It made it a real struggle to see through to the end, but I wanted to because I've heard they fix a lot of those problems in later games and I don't like to skip an entry!

Surley the best decision would be to have a higher threshold for decisions of this sort of magnitude. Say 60% in order to leave? Z

That was exactly my thinking, for something as big as this (and considering the referendum isn't legally binding and is more a way to see how the country feel about an issue) anything less than an overwhelming majority just doesn't seem enough to be acted on.

My understanding was the referendum lets the government know what the people are thinking, and they then take that into account when making a decision either way. A lead of a few percent just shows that not enough of the country are committed to the idea for it to be a sensible thing to do (I reckon).

If anyone liked Limbo and has an XB1 or PC, then hugely recommend Inside. It's a similar length to Limbo (about 3-4hrs depending how fast you solve the puzzles) so the £15 price tag might seem a bit much, but it's polished to perfection and, like Limbo, never seems to repeat an idea and finishes before it runs out of them. It's brilliant, intuitive puzzling with a ton of atmosphere and predictably fantastic art and sound design. It's short, but I'm already midway through a second run I enjoyed it so much.

Prog / Re: Prog 1988 - Front Toward Enemy

Dredd is great right now, love the way things are brewing. Lost the thread of the Slaine story yonks and yonks ago, but at least these big battles are very nicely painted (even if I don't really know or care what's going on). Not really been able to follow Black Shuck either, again the art looks really nice but I'm not sure what's going on in the story. Possibly I'm not giving it enough attention because it's just not my cup of tea mind you.

Great to see Scarlet Traces back, always really, really liked that back in the Meg (to the point my band had a song called Scarlet Traces at the time).

But really I'm posted to say...how bloody good did Brink go and get?! It was always good, but it went from 'intriguing new thrill' to 'best thing in the prog' for me pretty fast. Loving it.

I know I'm dredging up an old topic but I need to ask - did this thing ever actually air in the UK?

I remember getting really excited at the idea of a new sci-fi show, loved the look of it, love Tom Jane, and then...nothing. Unless it came on and I totally missed it. Desperate for a new spaceshippy show just now, contemplating a blind purchase of the Killjoys blu-ray just because it looks like it'll scratch an itch, but it's The Expanse that I want!

Probably still worth a shot if you didn't like Dead Island - I really didn't like that game and took a while to get into Dying Light but once I did I wound up loving it.
