or you could simply not read the threads you dont want to be involved in.

Of course, tagging things like this Off-topic rather than General would make ignoring them easier.

Does that apply to Synnamon creators too?

What, all of them?  It'd cost a fortune.

Spoilers

Cover: A bit naff, really.

Dredd: I liked it.  I think we need reminding now and then that Mega City One is an unpleasant place to live.

Dead Men Walking: S'okay.  It looks nice anyway, and there are worse things to be compared with than Harry Twenty.

Synnamon: Synnamon has a stupid name, but don't forget she's "sexy".  She must be, it says so in the editorial, and she wears a tight shiny suit, and then there's the bit in the bath.  That's sexy, see.

I can't believe there are six people working on it apparently without a single original idea between them.

Durham Red: I didn't follow this too well, so I'll wait and see.  The mirage suit thing was cool.

With a machine like this bad boy then I could just stick virtual PC on it and play DvD anyway.

For the price of that "bad boy", you could have bought a network of PCs to play multiplayer DvD with your mates, and had change left over for beer.

And when you weren't playing DvD, you could use them as a render farm.

Spoilers

Cover: Meh.

Dredd: Quite good, in a not very original sort of way.

Past Imperfect:  Cthulhu Mythos stories are always predictable rubbish, and this one was no different.

Sin/Dex: I didn't hate it.  A more serious, pun-free approach on it than most of their recent adventures probably helped.

From Grace: It wasn't shallow, it was efficiently told.  Loved that final image.

Oi! Spurrier! 38 is not old, you whippersnapper, you!

Probably a pretty good innings if you live in a post-apocalyptic warzone though.

Spoilers.

Dredd: Cool so far.  Hints of a Meltdown Man sort of feel.  Or do I mean Exploding Man?

Sin/Dex: Was that glaring plot device based on something that happened in a previous story, or did it just make no sense?

Leviathan: How did Lament survive being shot?  I didn't get that at all.  Last week I assumed Hastur would have made him immortal too so he could do the job, or something, but if that was the case it wasn't very clear.  Still quite good, just a bit unsatisfying.

From Grace: Lovely stuff.

Have you played the game online yet?
How is it?

No, I haven't got around to getting the PS2 online adapter yet (which is to say, I've had more pressing expenses to hurl onto my credit card).  I haven't exactly got my hopes up though - it only offers 8-player deathmatch, team deathmatch or capture the flag modes, and the multi-player maps are nothing special.  Four players round a big telly is still great fun, so the online play should be too, but don't expect anything you haven't seen elsewhere (well, except Space Marines and stuff, natch).

Oh yeah; the novel is a cracking good read.  I did raise an eyebrow once or twice at Kais' Rambo-like destruction of everything in his path, but it all makes sense by the end.  Even if you don't fancy the game, I can heartily recommend a 400 page dose of Spurrier's special blend of sick humour and ultra-violence.

The Xbox version isn't confirmed yet.  If it sells well on PC and PS2, they might do it, that's all.

I've had the PS2 version since Tuesday, and have found it hugely enjoyable.  It's makes easily the best use of the PS2 controller of any FPS I've seen yet, with accurate targeting not only possible but easy.  The graphics are good, if not exactly revolutionary, and the brown-ness of early levels soon gives way to more varied tones.  The Imperial Battleship levels in particular feature some fantastic moments of gothic silliness, with light from stained glass windows projected across vaulted engine rooms, with a prayer book next to every console.

The basic weapon changes throughout the game (Pulse Rifle, then Pulse Carbine, Burst Cannon (a minigun type affair) and then presumably rail rifle, though I haven't got that far) and is always useful.  You'll find yourself using them the most often, generally only switching when you run into Space Marines (which are if anything harder than they are on the table-top) and a boltgun or plasma rifle becomes more useful.

You can play at your own pace, but the grading system, which unlocks various extras, encourages you to play as quickly, violently and accurately as possible.  Going for the highest grade can get incredibly manic and exciting.

Fans of the table-top games will be pleased to find the furthest it drifts from the established background is in having the bolter significantly more powerful than a pulse rifle, which personally I can live with.

Oh yeah, and the voice acting is the best ever - Tom Baker does the intro, and during the game the likes of Burt Kwouk, Brian Blessed and Sean Pertwee pop up to variously give you your orders or threaten your downfall.

I'd give it four funny-shaped dice out of five.

IMDB, and indeed every other reference I can find online, agrees on the cast you have above, but the synopsis suggests it's the comic.  It's still a bit odd though - Catwoman is apparently "Patience Price" (no idea if that fits comic continuity or not - I haven't read anything Batman related in years) played by Halle Berry, and the synopsis doesn't quite fit the Catwoman stories I am familiar with.  Has some sort of "New Catwoman" thing happened in the comic in recent years?

(Apocalypse Soon)
The script is funny, gag-a-panel

It's humour of the most crude and retarded variety though, which puts me off.  It feels like it was written for something like Loaded or Sky rather than the Meg.

I thought this would be the one that everybody liked, and that initial uncertainty would fade at this point!

As I said, it worked for me, and now that the amused delight I felt at working out what was going on is no longer tempered by the suspicion that maybe I hadn't "got it" at all, it's up there with Charley's War as my favourite thing in the issue.

Gah, spacked up the link.

Oh yeah, Harry Twenty was good too but Apocalypse Soon is crap.
