I just pulled out a nose hair and it was completely white. Almost transparent, in fact. Like a polar bear's fur.

Shit, I get those too. They're twice as thick and much longer than the normal ones too. A shape of things to come...

I don't understand why people insist on wearing shorts and sleeveless t-shirts in freezing cold weather, seemingly, only to display their, frankly pedestrian, tatoos for a bit longer after summer's gone.

It looks a bit too much like a band t-shirt for my liking.

My biggest concern is that if I'm seen wearing a t-shirt which says 'And Justice For All' on it, people will mistake me for a Metallica fan *shudder*.

Bit mixed up here. I don't normally post in this thread, but wondered if anyone has had a similar experience.

A colleague has been found dead, in circumstances that are so far unexplained. It has been said it was an accident, but there is other, even more tragic talk. We just don't know yet.

I was one of several people who, despite liking the guy, found myself in conflict with him recently. It was nothing extreme, but when someone's gone you start to second-guess your own behaviour. I'm not sure how to feel about the whole thing, but I do know I feel very bad, for him and his family.

I don't see what could have been done differently but still several of us aren't coping very well.

Any advice?
I've already tried cheese. It only helped a little.
I certainly have had a similar experience. I had a close friend who killed himself by throwing himself in front of a train. We'd been at a party and he just sort of disappeared at some point. People were saying, "Where's Nat?", "Oh, he'll have gone wandering about, he'll be back.".

We'd all been taking various 'substances' at the party and, indeed, most of the time in that period of our lives. He'd been getting more and more depressed apparently but he was hiding it well. He was a beautiful guy, really intelligent, caring and witty. He was a real loss.

And if that's not enough, I have another similar story. A couple of years ago I was working as a fraud investigator for a large high street bank.

While I was looking into one of the cases, I uncovered some dodgy goings on from within our company. One of the senior staff was faking fraudulent applications and then transferring the money into his own bank account. When I was sure, I took it to my manager and showed him the evidence. The senior member of staff in question was on holiday at the time and a big investigation was launched culminating in the police arresting him in the office on his return to work.

While he was awaiting trial on bail, he commited suicide by feeding a pipe from his car exhaust into the drivers window. I felt really bad for a while as it seemed like I'd caused his death but colleagues were very supportive and I came to accept that none of it was my fault.

Not a pleasant episode by any means but there's no accounting for the actions of desperate people.

As I said, I agree. However, also dismissing changes in technology without having experienced them is, at best, foolhardy, and that's what a lot of people on this forum do.

I have read comics in a digital format, I just didn't enjoy the experience. I enjoy the lo-tech, tactile experience of holding a paper comic in my hands and I'm not the only one. I would never switch to a digital if there was a choice, even if the paper option was slightly more expensive. That's why I don't download any comics at the moment.

Really thoughh, my main concern is that I don't have a device on which to comfortably read comics. If I was loaded, I'd probably be reading comics on my ipad, but I'm not.

Sure things change, but people don't have to accept it. Like mini-disk, betamax, BSB, razor combs, single giant slippers for feet etc.

I'm not willing to pay for something I haven't really got. So I won't be subscribing to any comics digitally. Music is different- it's not really a physical thing. A comic on the other hand is a physical thing. You can take it out whenever you want, move it around, lie reading it in the bath, take it shopping and sit in the car reading it. Computers are great in theory, but for most of us, they come with lots of techno-baggage, are much higher maintenance than we can be arsed with and are about as mobile as a supporting wall.

I'm all for the choice being there for those who want digital, but I see nothing wrong with formats running in tandem, giving the buying public the ability to choose. Replacing one format with another removes any choice from the consumer, fulfilling your own prophecy by dint of engineering it to be that way. It doesn't necessarily mean that the consumer is happy about it.

What he said.

digital? Comics? But comics are made of paper. I certainly wouldn't be interested in reading any digital comics on any of the hardware I currently possess (a fairly rubbish laptop and a very rubbish Nokia phone). I suppose these things aren't aimed at people like me who can't afford to buy every new electronic gadget that comes out.

Watched this film for the first time last night and I have to say I thought it was a load of old rubbish. I didn't like any of the characters and I'm not really sure what the point of the whole thing was - I suppose it was just a character piece but I just found everyone incredibly irritating.
And the less said about the soundtrack the better.

Your mouth is full of wrong.

"Pandora's Star" and "Judas Unchained" are belters TB. They actually work much better as a piece than the most recent trilogy IMHO.

Pandora's Star is the first and only Hamilton book I've read. It took me about 2 years to read it, during which time I read 3 Iain M Banks books, 2 Alastair Reynolds books, Seeds of Earth by Michael Cobley, The Noise Within by Ian Whates and a book of short SF stories.

I kept losing interest with the meandering, seemingly directionless plot and enormous cast of characters. It started to get much more gripping about two thirds of the way through and held my interest til the end. It just took it's sweet time to get it's hooks into me.

I intend to read the sequel though, so that's a good sign.

PS. If anyone has yet to read House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds, I strongly recommend it. It's proper good and that.

by the way, that's not a picture of the figure. It's not that big...
