Well, out of all the Jump Start strips, HiFi Cluster was the one I'd want to read more of. Not really that interested in Food Wars to be honest.

With Naruto ending and Bleach apparently also coming to a conclusion, I hope they're replaced with something really good as the strips I'm interested in are dwindling rapidly.

Here's Brian Hanson, manga and anime columnist, summing up my feelings about World Trigger perfectly -

Two aspiring manga artists sit across from one another, incredibly bored.

"We need to think of the most generic, by-the-numbers manga we can so we can get published in Shonen Jump and make millions of dollars," one says to the other.

"Okay," the other replies. "Let's just make a manga about kids fighting generic monsters. Those are always popular."

"Sure," says the other. "Let's have, like, the monsters come from some portal or something that opened up."

"Cool," he says. "let's call them 'Neighbors'! That's clever, right?"

"Damn right it's clever. And they fight these monsters with powerful weapons. And we'll call them 'Triggers' for some reason."

"Hey, works for me. We can call the manga 'World Trigger'! And the twist is that one of the main characters who fights these 'Neighbors' is himself a 'Neighbor' from the alternate plane!"

"And we'll explain all of this lame mythology with utterly lazy narration in the opening pages!"

Then the two of them danced around with mediocre glee.

My party trick used to be doing Paul McCartney's 'The Frog Chorus' in burps.

I can't do it anymore - my oesophageal muscles have worn down over time, and now I just end up with a mouthful of sick.

Whenever I hear the Frog Chorus I end up with a mouthful of sick.

I was just on my way to post about this. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. How do the games run?

As a bairn, I always thought his helmet was supposed to look like a dog's face, complete with snout and black nose. Now it just looks like a helmet.

Is that a really obvious observation, or was I the only one?

Very odd James. It sounds like it was definitely a problem with Royal Mail in your case, although Denise has told me that the distribution office has recently changed (or something) and that there have been an increase in undelivered progs since then.

I've never had any problems in the last 7 years at this address, but just recently it's been an utter shambles.

Has anyone else been having problems with non-delivery?

In the last couple of months, I've had no less than 5 progs completely fail to show up. Denise must be getting tired of hearing my voice, but she's been sending out replacement copies like a trooper whenever I call her with another tale of woe.

I'm beginning to suspect that some Royal Mail employee somewhere is harvesting my Thrill Power.

I just got the ABC Warriors Mek Files vol 2 (vol 1 still in the post) and it's mouth wateringly lovely.

To save me trawling through this thread, has there been any news of a volume 3 yet?

No, it's not just you. I couldn't stop thinking that The Alienist was a hastily re-tooled Doctor Who story. Even before the psychic paper made an appearance I was getting Who vibes, but that just sealed it.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, I just found the, ahem, borrowed plot elements a little jarring. Once it starts proper and we focus more on the interplay between pompous, blustering actor and incognito Time Lord...sorry, extra-dimensional alien woman, hopefully it'll find its own voice.

And yes, the art was tops.

Strangely Duncan Jones mentioned his Dredd pitch as being a take on Man Bites Dog.

...involving Judge Death and the League of Fatties.

I'd love to live in the parallel universe where that got made.

Well, after all my pre-viewing defensive remarks I've now actually watched the first 2 episodes and, yes, it's pretty poor.

I don't know if I'll ever get around to watching the rest of it. I certainly don't feel the need to do so based on what I've seen so far. I don't mind the 'cartoony' style, or the wacky humour, it's just so far removed from what I think Judge Dredd should be.

Also, various comments from Blackmocco and others ring true regarding how much damage it could potentially do to what is, to all intents and purposes, a fledgling property in the US, and that leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Please continue to call it a big pile of fucking shit with my full blessings.
