I was so happy when, still buzzing from the movie, I woke up Saturday morning to see this and 2000AD had arrived. That's the kind of thing that makes a great weekend even better.

Was a great read too, the movie interviews were very welcome (although I think one of them contained a bit of a spoilerific reference to the very end of the movie which would be a shame for folks who haven't watched it yet).

Also, before I turned the page and saw her from the front and heard her name I was convinced Judge Zeff was based on Yolandi Visser. 'Zef' is a bit of South African slang she throws around a lot so would make sense.

I've got a mate who knows Boo Cook and I got him to ask about this via Facebook.

Boo's reply simply read; "Zeffside!"

Film Discussion / Re: DREDD reviews. (SPOILERS!)

Went to see it for a second time yesterday afternoon with my friend and our wives.

My friend was a lapsed 2000 AD reader until I got him back into the fold recently. He's now a subscriber and a fully fledged Squaxx once again. He hasn't been following the production of the film and doesn't visit this site, so all he had to go on were the little tidbits I've been feeding him.

He absolutely loved it. His main point being that there was "absolutely no compromise. It's Dredd on the screen.".

My wife loved it too and thought it was 'artistically valid' (she likes her arty films) and my friend's wife enjoyed it too, even though she was covering her eyes during some of the gorier scenes.

I enjoyed it just as much, if not more than the first time. Having seen it once, I was able to relax and concentrate a bit more, absorbing the grungy atmosphere and enjoying the details. I'd love to go see it again but I can't really justify the expense, so I reckon the next time I watch it will be on DVD.

Really love this film. I hope it does well because it really deserves to be seen by a lot of people and, of course, I want to see a sequel. Well done to everyone involved.

General / New T shirts/Dredd Case Files in HMV
07 September, 2012, 02:30:13 PM
Don't know if this has been pointed out anywhere else, apologies if it has.

HMV have got two new Dredd T shirts in store. One is a big, grey Dredd badge, the other is a massive, full colour Cliff Robinson Dredd pic which says 'I AM THE LAW!' at the top. The Cliff design doesn't have a pic on the website at the moment but here's the link -

http://hmv.com/hmvweb/simpleMultiSearch.do?searchUID=&pGroupID=clothing+and+accessories&adultFlag=false&simpleSearchString=dredd&primaryID=clothing+and+accessories&btnSubmitSearch.x=57&btnSubmitSearch.y=19

They also have a lot of the early Case Files and the Origins trade for £10 each.

What's the sentence for that again?

An Adam Sandler movie marathon. Sat with Adam Sandler.

Film Discussion / Re: Dredd 3D art concept from Jock!

He said that in answer to my question on the forum Q&A.

The Chopper story would open and close the film with a Cursed Earth/Origins middle section featuring the Angel Gang and Satanus (!).

I asked him about it at the screening and he said there would be "a lot more Chopper if I get to do another one". I bloody hope he does.

Ha Ha! Tookey really is an idiot isn't he. I'm glad he hates it, he's a joke and the Daily Mail is a laughing stock to all intelligent people.

All the other reviews I've read have been overwhelmingly positive and most of them have advocated a sequel.

Bring it on! I want Chopper, the Angel Gang and Satanus!

Happy Dredd Day!

I actually envy all those who will be watching it for the first time today. You're in for a real treat.

Why don't you paint your face like that gang 'the Judged' did in the film John?

Paint? Pah! If he was a REAL fan it would be a tattoo.

I was sat next to the very lovely Radiator and a nice guy in a Nemesis t shirt who'd won his ticket on Twitter.

He said he was going to look in on the forum after seeing us all there that night. Wonder if he's out there, lurking?

Come in! We're all friendly.

While everyone is entitled to their opinions regarding next week's cover, can we keep the personal abuse to a minimum please? Thanks.

Sorry. It was supposed to be funny.

I hope the process behind this image is explored on the Covers blog

The process could be summed up quite concisely with a picture of the artist yawning next to a photocopy of the invoice.

And yes Dark Jimbo, it seems I was talking bollocks in my criticism of the Dredd story. I don't want to be the sort of prick who complains about a story after not properly reading it but it seems that's what I've done. I'm still not too keen on the story but I think it's more to do with the art. I think it's very proficient and Campbell is extremely talented, it's just not my cup of tea.

What is Dredd 2D about?

It's the prequel to Dredd 3D.

Cover - We knew there was going to be a photo cover and this looks gorgeous.

Dredd - I can't figure out why everyone's losing their shit over this. It's average at best. Not keen on the photo referenced art either. I find it utterly unbelievable that this wonder drug formula was not stored in any computer or written down anywhere and only existed inside one woman's head. I suppose it makes the 'all back to normal in time for next week's episode, kids!' ending work.

3rillers - Well, that was a bog standard A to B kind of a story wasn't it? It was ok I suppose but I was expecting some kind of twist or sudden surprise or...anything really.

Ichabod Azrael - I loved the first series but this one hasn't really lived up to my expectations. It's alright and I'd like to see more. It just seems like not a great deal happened in this series.

Lenny Zero - I found it hard to enjoy this after the negative reaction to last weeks episode. It certainly hasn't set my world alight but it's been a fun enough 'romp' which pushed plenty of my fan buttons. The most disturbing development in the story for me was Max Normal casually becoming a serious criminal with no explanation.

Aquila - This is the cream of the crop for me. Love me some good, bloody avenging. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next series.

I have to agree about the 'Next Week' cover preview. It looks absolutely awful. The bad old days of Dredd the body builder and Anderson (assuming that's meant to be Anderson) the porn model. Mean Machine (who is currently, literally disarmed and re-habilitated isn't he?) looks rubbish too.

The only angle I can see is if they're trying to attract people who gave up reading the prog in the 90's by showing them an image which will seem familiar.
