I'm thinking "Sinister/Dexter (deceased)". It'll have Ray coming back as a ghost only Finny can see in order to help him solve gunsharky crimes. Then, twenty years down the line, it'll all be remade by a hit-and-miss comedy duo with a former Doctor Who featuring as Ray's ghost mentor.

All this talk of swapping in and out alternative versions of people causes me to think of Sliders...
