Off Topic / What Heroclix did you get?
29 April, 2006, 07:32:19 AM
I'm intrigued as to whicj tooth character people got when their letter was published.

I got a Nemesis.

I imagine Floyd has a small army ready to take over the world by now.

I'm having a crisis of confidence due to some rejections, and I keep reading really good books that I like.
Further dropping me into a "I'm crap" state of mind.

What I need is to read some downright terrible books so I can say to myself, "I'm better than them, and they got published.  That means I can too."

So, crap books please.

Film & TV / Best movie ever?
20 March, 2006, 09:48:42 PM
The title of the film:  Snakes on a Plane.
The Star:  Samuel L. Jackson.
The action:  Sam whips snakes, tasers snakes, mace's snakes, all on a plane!

Apparently Sam would only commit if they would release the film as Snakes on a Plane and not change the title.

So I say again, potentially the best film ever!

Film & TV / Comic book movies - a definitive list
14 March, 2006, 09:41:02 PM
So, as I mentioned in another thread, I aim to collect as many comic book movies as possible.  To this end, I thought we could try to come up with as complete a list as possible.  I'll start with all the ones I can think of and if anyone spots any missing, add them on.

We are only talking Western comics here, there are way to many Manga inspired ones to get started.

Spiderman 1,2,3 - the Sam Raimi ones
Spiderman -the 70's ones, I think there were 2 sequels as well.
Superman 1,2,3,4 and Returns
The Phantom
The Rocketeer
Batman The Movie
Batman
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Batman Begins
Batman & Robin
Bulletproof Monk
Men In Black 1, 2
Constantine
Swamp Thing
Road to Perdition
A History of Violence
Judge Dredd
Tank Girl
Elektra
Daredevil
Fantastic 4
Fantastic Four - Roger Corman
Hulk
The Punisher - Dolph Lundgren
The Punisher - Tom Jane
Blade
Blade 2
Blade Trinity
Hellboy
Mystery Men
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
From Hell
V for Vendetta
The Shadow
Ghost Rider
Ghost World
Captain America
The Flash - plus some sequels?
X-Men 1,2,3
Sin City
Catwoman
The Crow - plus sequels
Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1,2,3 (3 is the best)
Dick Tracy

That's all I can think of, anyone got more?

Books & Comics / Chiaroscuro
13 March, 2006, 12:24:35 AM
I know that it's the title of the strip on the way from the Spurious one, however, it's also the title of a series from DC.

Does it resemble yours in anyway Si?  (I'm just fishing for some details in a nosy way here)

Off Topic / Does having a degree matter?
11 March, 2006, 04:14:41 AM
In the time I have frequented this board, I have noticed a fair few have degrees.
Now when I left Uni I found my degree to have been a huge monetary watse and a waste of time as far as getting a job was concerned.  I had a great time at Uni, don't get me wrong, but found that no-one would give me a chance because I had never worked in a office.

Has anyone else felt like their degree waste a bit of a waste and thought they'd have been better off just getting a job?

So, really, although going to Uni and learning all this stuff about Greeks and Romans was of interest to me, it proved useless in the real world.  Has anyone else felt that way?

I would put this forward more eloquently, but I'm drunk.

Website and Forum / Future Shop Question
08 March, 2006, 05:00:24 PM
So, if it's a future shop, does that mean that the shop is in the future, meaning the order I put in won't get there until we catch up.  Or is it that my order is from the future coming back to the shop to make sure everything is good.

More specifically, how long should I expect to wait from placing the order to getting my stuff?

Those of you that met me at Brighton Comic Expo will have heard me jabber on about putting my kids fantasy adventure novel online, in installments.
Well, as I am finally getting paid, I can afford to buy the website!

What I am here to cheekily ask, is for anyone with a smidge of artistic talent, if they might like to do some character sketches or illustrations to brighten up what is going to be a very prose heavy site.

I am broke and can't pay anyone anything, let's be clear here.

So, if this riveting sales pitch has caught your eye, drop me a line.

Thanks.

Events / Bristol Comic Expo
15 February, 2006, 04:54:41 AM
Who's going?

I know this looks a bit early, but the main hotel is already fully booked and I'd like to do both days, because getting back from Bristol at the time I finished in Brighton would be a bugger.

Is anyone looking to go halves on a room or anything?

I should also have a large wodge of The Courier to hand out in a "You want to hire me" effort, so any left can be nabbed if any of you care.

I know Jon Oliver is going, so Rebellion will have a presence, but there aren't any 2000ad regulars listed.

Off Topic / Wagner's Yearly Page Count
08 February, 2006, 03:12:03 AM
Was just thinking, with Mr Wagner scripting most of the Dredd that turns up in tooth and the Meg, along with Strontium Dog and others, does he get the most published comic pages out in a year?

Is there anyone else who gets as many pages into the hands of readers as him, and I mean regularly, not having one really prolific year, then not much for the next three.

Am I wrong?

Links / Shameless Self Promotion - My First Comic
06 February, 2006, 10:18:56 PM
Thought I'd get in on the act.
I took a rejected Future Shock that I liked, re-jigged it some and hooked up with an artist to draw it.
The plan is to get it printed up and used as a promotional comic at cons.

However, the artist is putting it up on her website in weekly installments (I think).  The cover and pages 1 and 2 are up so far.

All feedback is welcome.

Film & TV / Mock The Week - 20/01/06
21 January, 2006, 04:18:36 AM
Just to point out here, the John Oliver on tonights Mock The Week is not the GN editor.

Because of that bloke, out beloved Jon has to perform as Jon Evans (I think).
If you live in Cardiff, you might stand a chance of seeing him, he seems to get all his gigs there.

(Sorry Jon, I'm a bit pished and felt like sharing.  If you didn't want the Squaxx Dek Thargo to know, the you are, missing a trick I reckon)

Film & TV / Hyperdrive
06 January, 2006, 06:35:08 AM
We have had some discussion about this show previously, but it starts on the 11th, and there is a small clip up as a preview.

I hope it's not the best they have to offer.

General / What's your favourite Dredd Epic?
23 December, 2005, 11:13:48 PM
Have spent the last week working my way through the various Dredd epics I own, which is by no means all of them.

Cursed Earth, Judge Child, Apocalypse War (inc Block Mania), (most of) Necropolis and the Doomsday pairing.

I have to say my favourite is the Apocalypse War, it just seems to be more epic and holds together better as a single story than any of the others.

Anyone agree/disagree?  Got any suggestions of other ones I should hunt down?

Off Topic / Playing catch up
12 December, 2005, 08:14:53 PM
Checking my usual site for latest TV shows, I came across a link for a 2000ad giga pack.
It's about 12GB but claims to have scans of every issue from 1 to 1143 with only a couple of gaps.

I won't link the torrent directly cos I'm not sure if I'm allowed.  But you can find it on mininova.org.

If you are into that sort of thing.  I don't condone piracy of any kind yadda yadda blah blah blah.
