185.. bloody hell... and about a dozen are waiting on the DVD shelf to be watched...
and some odd choices in there-- woefully under represented Marx Bros -and no Blue Daliah or Glass Key?

And that de-caffinated version of Grand Canyon -Crash- HIGHER than Night of the Hunter?! Bah! And no showing for Jupiter's Darling...

>A question about Blackhawk:

>Does anyone know how come Joe Staton drew the episode of Blackhawk in prog 133?
And was he the first American artist to work on 2000AD?

Yes! He was staying with Brian Bolland at the time and the chance came up -there were deadline issues I seem to remember- and Brian wangled for him the chance to draw for 2000AD!

Blackhawk-- I own a couple of pages of that-- gorgeous stuff... whenever I think I've done something good, I'll look across at the Belardinelli art and realize I've still got WAY far to go...

On the subject of this EE, I'd forgotten just how good Steve Dillon's work was here- really influential on my early art too!

That was Joanna Cassidy! I missed that-- the young version was well cast, wasn't she?

Oh, and the Briefcase edition (Own Deckard's briefcase!) is available on Amazon.com for $60 including postage, and that's less than £30 (as I know to my cost when cashing US checks lately...

Off Topic / Re: stereotypical sci fi nerds.......

Nerdyiness... someone's already said- we're no weirder than the folks who go to a pub wearing a Beckham shirt... how likely are they to play for England? So, how is that acceptable when dressing like a Jedi isn't? (and I'm not suggesting we all dress like Jedi...)

I did hear an apocryphal story a while back about guys going to Trek conventions dressing as Admirals so they'd out rank the women and therefore theoretically stand a better chance of scoring...

We've all got our dreams and obsessions. My missus' uncle is a major civil servant who loves listening to LPs (vinyl!)of train noises... and he makes decisions that affet the whole country (well, ok Wales)

The Storm Trooper guys do disturb me a little... who watches a film and says 'yes! I really identify with the fascist bastards in white plastic- I'm going to dress just like them!'

My favourite Hollywood musical: "Jupiter's Darling" Howard Keel as Hannibal, about to sack Rome when Esther Williams as the daughter of Caesar (played by George Saunders)- through an underwater dance routine with statues and various musical numbers tries to woo him and stop his plan to bring down the Roman Empire.

How can you not love it?

The God Fish...The God fish?!?!?!? bizzare choice for the Meg , not a bad story but for the Meg???

No one was more surprised than me.....!

Oddly enough I found my original script for that just this week- in a stack of my old Action Force stories! well, the original carbon, as that was back in the days when we used 'typewriters' whatever they might be...

I suspect it's a red herring... there's talk of Bruce Campbell playing Mysterio --maybe it's an elaborate set up? Dunno- just speculating, no spoilers here...

Film & TV / SPIDER-MAN 3 Trailer!

Sandman looks perfect, but there's a couple of ...absences... from the trailer, which makes me wonder if we won't get another with certain other characters who we 're told are supposed to be in there....

Prog / Re: 1507 - Monsters inside. Or wha...
28 September, 2006, 12:17:19 AM
Gawd, but Tooth is quite wonderful at the moment... kinda makes me feel like back in the day before I turned pro and there was always a Mick, Kev, Gibbo or Bolland strip in there (or if you'd been good and gone to Confession, a Mick, Kev AND Gibbo and/or Bolland!).

Tooth is now about as good as it ever was. Carlos is drawing Dredd! John's writing it! Robbie, Edge and Si are writing nasty and twisted but with the old sharp wit we've come to expect from 2000AD. And there's not a bad art job. This is a golden age folks, savour it!

Help! / Re: The Missing Daily Star Dredds....
16 September, 2006, 04:59:57 AM
Ah, the Star--I drew the strip for 3 years (halfway through they started running it in what could be loosly be described as 'colour'-though my daughter was doing better in Playgroup with crayolas)  I reached the point where I couldn't face having to pick up the paper to see my art-- and DC offered me an exclusive so I took the Long Walk. Looking back, I should've stayed but it was so demolarlizing--David Bishop can probably confirm but I think the strip evenually got dropped to make more room for the horoscaopes.
