Kids dont want namby pamby crap, they want to be scared.

i think the adult population have a tendancy to underestimate children.  'we' (and by 'we' i mean mary whitehouse) tend to think that our children should be wrapped in a plastic bubble and sheilded from the world, while we scream 'the children! won't someone think of the children!?!'.  personally i think children and stronger than we give them credibility for and because of their age and lack of world weiriness are probably a lot more adaptable than we are.

so...umm...what were we talking about?  ah yes, planet of spiders.  good ep, i remember enjoying it.  contay to what mary whitehouse said, i, as an arachnophobe, was not scared shitless once.  regeneration, sfx wise, was shit, buy hey, Tom Baker!!!  Woo!!!

ahem.

true.  but as i said, fucked about.  i liked that his doctor acted like a bit of a bastard (or as far as you could in 1980's kids show) at times and that McCoys doctor was more in touch with the darker side of the character.

damn.  JamesC's post was so NOT there when i posted.  i thought i was being suck a cleaver arse...:)

I stopped watching Dr Who after that as none of the other Drs were any good.

i honestly believe that both Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy could have been brilliant doctors if the show wasn't getting completely fucked around with by that point

Help! / Re: Sinister Dexter grapics novels...

i was going to say yes, but the only example i can think of is the metal gear solid digital comic.

maybe not, but it would give the characters a publicity boost.

i dont want to stereotype, but wouldn't a lot of gamers be the comic reading type.

maybe the problem was because it was a collection of small stories.  while i'm a strong believer that the best way to introduce characters in a wekkly is to start of with smaller stories, that doesn't really make for a good graphic novel.

perhaps they could collect some of the bigger stories like...what was it called...?  the one where Demi....err, you know....  that might be something people would enjoy more.

Wait...you mean you *weren't* put off when you though it was Loeb writing...??

no.  spiderman: blue, Superman for all seasons, batman: dark victory.  enjoyed them all.  trying to get my grubby little hands on the Long Halloween

Film & TV / Re: Great Snakes - It's Tintin......

no, but you could apply that argument to anything.  there seems to be this unspoken idea that nothing is really appriciated by the masses unless it's a film, or if something is successful, you HAVE to make it into a film.  and then these films are made by people who totally balls it up and shit all over the source material.

truth is i probably agree with you, i think a lot of things should just be left alone instead of translated into film *cough*dredd*cough*, and i might feel the same way about tintin, but spielberg and jackson make good films and i find that encouraging

p.s.  i loved tintin as a kid but i havent read any of them in years.  this thread had kind of put me in the mood for reading some of them.  any suggestions where to start?
