Karyn's performance is truly abysmal: she runs around, screams for no good reason, starts off by demanding total respect from Dredd and ends up having all sorts of doubts.  generally comes across as a cissy girl.

Karyn 2, Shakta 2.

I went to see it with my new bride & parents-in-law.  Afterwards, we all agreed it was a documentary - they just set in America to avoid paying us any cash.  I've even heard lines equivalent to the origin of "kimono" from her uncle.

Don't know why they got that bloke in to play me, though - I'm far more good-looking...

Help! / Greek 2000AD
11 March, 2004, 05:41:27 PM
I was flicking around the 2000ad webring the other day (thanks to Uncle Umpty's site, I think), and came across a page dedicated to Greek language editions of 2000AD.

As someone desperately struggling to learn the language of Plato, Kazantzakis, and more prosaically my parents-in-law, such a thing would be more useful than I can possibly describe.

However, the email address listed bounced back and the link on the page doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know if this franchise is still in operation, and how I can get hold of back issues?

Also, any details of 2000AD graphic novels in Greek etc would be gratefully received.

UKD: doesn't the Beeb-for-foreigners channel show lots of non-bbc programmes?

In which case, you should be able to get the mighty Black Books!

"Whatever Happened to...The Cat From the Vivisection Story?"

Now that would be pure gold!

I think that actually the more minor the characters, the better.  A single story that wraps up a character with a big history (like Giant) is always going to feel slightly perfunctory, whereas these little vignettes show us new sides to the Mega-City and/or bring out the potential in the character.  The writers choose the characters in the first place, so they must feel there's potential there - so on top of everything else it could give us some really nice bits of original writing, and a better look into Dredd's world than just another "Dredd with funny accent" story.

You're not Pat Mills yerself, are you?  After the recent demonstration of self-parody (as uncovered by the lovely Tiplodocus), I'm suspicious of remarks like yours...

Can you get in touch with Mills through Rebellion?  Surely he'd be happy if the script was the exact original, not changing a word?

It would have been a steady stream of EMP's (electro-magnetic pulses), I guess.  the effect these have is to knock out electronic systems rather than electricity.  I don't think you could knock out electricity without fundamental changes to the physics of atomic structure.

I thought it was pretty well-presented.  They made no secret of the fact that this was what *could* happen if all present trends in energy production continued without change for the next 6 years.

Really, all it was was an oldfashioned polemic about the badly-managed state of Britain's energy grid, they just added a drama element to make it watchable and I like that kind of attempt to reach out to the audience.
