Off Topic / Dear Web-fu grandmasters...

Is there any way of copying all the URLs on a page of links?

The page is here - http://www.hanksville.org/NAresources/indices/NAknowledge.html

I want to create a list of every site that this page links to, without having to go through the whole thing manually.  Is there any way of doing this?

Not exaclty true, think of "Bury my knee at wounded heart", Dredd is humane but with a twist. It's the twist part we like, whether he's humane or not is secondary.

But think how shit BMK@WH would have been if Dredd had let Knee off.  It's the final payoff, where he still incarcerates the old guy event though he's essentially agreed with him, that makes the strip moving and bitterly funny.

I'm an academical type too, though not as employed as him.  Pissed at a conference on Friday, I was seized and dragged over to meet the "other guy who likes Judge Dredd".  A few moments later, a connection to your good selves emerged.

One of you is a scumbag!

And the other one... oh, I can't remember, something about your favourite NI football team being losers.  Or something.  Definitely had football in, anyway.

All of which is by way of saying that non-boarder SimonT seems a thoroughly good bloke.

Books & Comics / Re: The legality of

I have no inside knowledge, but here's a vaguely educated guess:

1) King-SLAYs 1 & 2 (The Kingsley brothers, who own Rebellion) are proper fans of the comic, and thus rather enjoy some of the fanzine work.

2) The 2000AD creatives (with one well-known exception) have never objected to their creations being used in this way.

3) Tharg is canny enough to know that fanzines are a great form of free advertising.  Zarjaz is on sale in Forbidden Planet across the country - what better advertisement for a comic than that it has spawned a fanzine?

4) The original 2000AD fanzine, Class of '79, was created during the later years of Fleetway's ownership, during which period the owners seemed to neither know nor care what the comic was.  Rebellion inherited a situation where the fanzines were already there, so it would be tricky to do anything about them.

5) The quickest way to seem like a big, uncaring corporation is to sue a couple of guys with a passionate love for your project and a photocopier.  There's no way you'd win the publicity war on that one.

6) 99% of the fanzines' circulation is to people who already read 2000AD and buy its spin-off products.  Rather than taking them away from the central comic, reading a fanzine re-confirms the audience's love and admiration for the real product.

7) The small press mags are a good way of monitoring the new talent out there, and letting that new talent work on 2000AD characters like Dredd is a good way of seeing whether they're ready for the next stage.  It also keeps the artists' and writers' minds focussed on 2000AD, rather than trying for America.

I suspect that if the fanzines got as big as I hear some of the Japanese ones are, it might be a different story, but while their circulations are in the hundreds, there's no downside for Rebellion in allowing them to operate.

This life reminds me of a carousel
Going all the way round
And we think its swell, dont we?
But even plastic horses get put down
Hey, we all gotta hit the ground

Its a funny business baby
As we can see
But I keep my eyes wide open
Even when Im asleep
cos we never know when death will
Come around
Hey, we all gotta hit the ground

Acceleration x3

Its kinda hopeless baby
As we can see
But I keep my windows open
When Im asleep
cos I never know if he willCome around
Hey, we all gotta hit the gorund

Acceleration x3

This life reminds me of a...
This life reminds me of a...

Acceleration x3

Accelerate
And it looks so pretty
Accelerate
All those shiny bright lights
Accelerate
Calling my name
Accelerate
And Im falling freely
Accelerate
And its moving so fast
Accelerate
Slow down honey
Accelerate
Accelerate

News / Re: Massimo- news?

I'm really late to say this, but what sad news.

Belardinelli's Ace Garp remains the best comedy strip 2000AD has ever run, thanks largely to the animated scarf and the weird little black thing that used to run around all over the place (both of which might have been suggested by the writers, but would have been rubbish had it not been for the loving care Belardinelli put into his work).

Ten-ten and never again.
