...but if you're going to write under an alias, why choose one that's obviously an alias?  If he called himself "Dyfed Priest", it'd just be wanky and obvious.

Cover - Awful and disrespectful.  Not even trying.  That said, I'd like to see this "Synn" person - not to be confused with Synnamon, you can tell them apart by the way they look completely different - get her own strip sometime.

Dredd - very mediocre.  Afraid that the art doesn't (for me) suit Dredd, I thought the fattie on p.1 was a ghost for a moment.  OK, I agree that the artist means it to look like that.  I just don't like it looking like that!  And the story was...disppointing.  If it was a one-off it'd be good n tight, as it was it just felt stretched.

DMW - I'm such a slavering fan of Boo Cook's art he could draw Kola Kommandoes II and I'd sit still for it.  But the script is, nonetheless, derivative vollocks.

C.Inc - Great.  Just great.  Just really, really great.

Synnamon - OK.  Thought the drone's language went a little awry, though.  Didn't flow the way the first two episodes did, and the imagination factor went down a bit for me.  But I'll continue to mark this down as a grower.

Durham Red - Now trying the experiment of reading this while blocking out all memories of SD and previous DRed stories.  Does it read OK by itself?  Um, yes.  I think.  The nudity's stupid and pornographic - as in you can see the glee in each lovingly rounded arse cheek.  But the story cracks along, there are all sorts of continuity points coming out and, maybejustmaybe, they could pull it off.  Let's say I'm 30% convinced, anyway.

Isn't it utterly, utterly random to have a heroine (and cover star) with an Alice band?  Surely that's only for good little girls who grow up to be rather lonely maths teachers?

Great idea - won't buy this (read them all) but will have a flick in the shop.  Really good character to introduce new readers to Dredd's world with.

Oh God.  The Child Catcher.  I went to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang The Musical over the weekend.  I will have nightmares shaped like Wayne Sleep in leather forever more...

BTW, I went to see it cos I had to.  DON't go and see it voluntarily.  TRUST ME ON THIS.

At least the top film (The Shining) was right: I first watched it at student cinema pissed out of my skull, surrounded by laughing fools.  Suddenly I was sober, scared...and still surrounded by laughing fools, but it didn't kill the fear.

The Exorcist is one of the most overrated films of all time, though.

Can I have the recipe for that Dudley?

Sure!  Be warned that it's from memory:

Ingredients:
Shedload of chestnuts (recipe says 175g, I've gone to twice that)
Mushrooms (again, recipe says 100g, it needs more.  The darker varieties of mushroom are better)
1/2 green pepper, 1/2 orange/red/yellow pepper.
1 onion
2 cloves of garlic
Glass of red wine (I'm catering for a non-red-wine drinker & use stock)
2 tbsp fresh herbs (e.g. Marjoram, oregano, basil, sage...)
Mustard
Flour
Butter
100-150g Strong cheddar cheese
3/4 pint Milk
Salt & pepper, nutmeg as well if you like
Green lasagne
Take chestnuts, cut a cross deep into the shell on each side.  Boil for about 5 minutes.  Peel the shells off.  (This is the time-consuming bit).  Mash as you would potatoes.
Chop onion, crush garlic, chop mushrooms roughly, chop peppers quite finely.  Saute the onion & garlic, after about 2 minutes add in the peppers & mushrooms.  Keep going until cooked but don't keep frying until its a squishy mess.  Stir in the chestnut mash, the fresh herbs and a dab of mustard.  Season.  Stir in the red wine/stock, don't add enough to make it go runny, just keep it liquid.
Make a white sauce, stir in the cheese & butter, add a dab of mustard and a bit of nutmeg.
Take 1/2 the chestnut mixture, spoon into baking dish, flatten.  Cover with sheets of lasagne, making sure they don't overlap at any point.  Take the other 1/2, spoon over the top of that, flatten out, cover in lasagne sheets as before.  Pour your cheese sauce over the top.  Cook at 350F/200C for about 40-45 minutes (top should be browned & bubbly).  Serves 4 people who like healthy portions.

Judge Dredd - isn't he brilliant?

Woke up this morning late, despite aged grandparent making the trip to have lunch with us for the first time ever.  Suddenly realised - only 2 hours to prepare chestnut lasagne, clean bathroom, lay out wedding dinner service (carefully kept freeze-dried in tissue paper), blah blah blah...  Get to 12, stop running for a moment to confirm to each other omigod we'll never make it on time, find out the clocks have changed and we do have that extra hour.  A quick hallelujah and a teeny tear may have escaped my eye...
