Quote from: Jade Falcon on 12 August, 2023, 07:16:28 PMI read Snow/Tiger...and I am disappointed.  I loved the first story...and it ended all too soon.  Black Light felt the same, and ditto with with the last story.  Three tales I loved and yet didn't get the coverage they deserved while stuff like Slaine got dragged out...
I've just read it and second your comment. Snow/Tiger was great, fast moving with superb art, but just ended far too quickly! Black Light was mixed on the art front but an intriguing story and I would have happily had more. The vendetta saga had a bigger bite of the cherry with three longer tales but could easily have continued. John Burns on top form throughout. A great collection so not exactly disappointed as such but left wanting more. Shame we can't have more 'thirty seconds into the future' thrillers, Tharg!

Really enjoying these posts Hoagy. Great stuff. I don't know how you're hammering them out so quick!

Quote from: JohnW on 15 September, 2023, 08:22:16 PMI read Milligan's Dare this evening and wasn't hugely impressed.
Yeah I picked this up in the FP sale too, and agree with your summary. Also, a bit too cartoony!

I read the Revolver Dare at the time and thought it was pretty good, if a bit grim story-wise. As was mentioned before, the art was very appealing.

Off topic, but I also picked up a Milligan written adaptation of The Prisoner in the sale and I found that decent, if not mind-blowing.

Quote from: Colin YNWA on 16 September, 2023, 12:20:35 PMfantastic, retool this a little and this is exactly what we should have in Regened.
Haha I read it this morning and had the same thought. Some really enjoyable fun and nasty stuff!

Dredd/Juves, El Mestizo, Hellman, Easy, I'd like to see more of. Dredger and Death Game not so much.

The thought bubbles and the over-narration... I get why but would hope those could be left behind if there's a chance these continue.

Quote from: broodblik on 29 August, 2023, 10:57:24 AMThe great thing for me is that I am introduced to characters which I would never had read...
Same - these are all new to me. And some really good stuff in these comics. I was blown away by Cooley's Gun, as it were, best art yet for me, and story and lettering great. Goosebumpy. Was slightly underwhelmed by the follow-up Death Squad which while perfectly good, just paled slightly in comparison for me. I would have quite like to have seen it coloured, it felt a bit stark - again might just be because of what came before.

They are nicely formatted with good paper and covers. I wonder what sales have been like, and will we see more after this limited run?

Dead Signal is pretty good but kinda fizzles then just stops without wrapping up the story.

collected in the floppie that came with Meg 383

Thanks! Think I'll pass on this one.

Moved to cherry-picking mode after issue 140. The spine art change has put me off a bit and too many double dips for me in this latest extension.

Quote from: Richard on 25 August, 2023, 11:43:36 AMIf anyone decides to re-read the first series, could they please post a synopsis here of what happened?
It was in a Meg floppie not that long (couple of years?) ago - have to dig it out.

Quote from: Hackenbush on 22 August, 2023, 11:16:18 AMNew Issues up on Hachette site:
157 Damnation Station + Go Machine + Dead Signal  - Al Ewing Volume
158 Atavar + Road Kill  - Dan Abnett and Richard Elson
159 Harlem Heroes Volume 2 - the rest of Inferno
Damnation I caught in some Meg floppies a couple of years ago. Not too fussed. The other Al Ewings worth a read?
I liked Kingdom so may give the Atavar volume a go - any views on it?

Registered and voted for Simon's entry, which is a great piece of art! Didn't seem to increment the tally though. I couldn't make out what difference the stars made to the tally, but selected 5 as instructed.

I've got the Fleetway paperbacks, dated 1989, which measure 297x225, they all look matt paper inside. The repo looks pretty good - some pages pop more than others.

The pages are falling off the spines so I have an excuse to get another edition.

Art still looks absolutely incredible. How on earth did he do it?

Quote from: AlexF on 18 August, 2023, 09:21:23 AMI thought this week's episode of PABG was pretty decent, almost entirely because it jumped around between three stories...
I'm still reading it and finding it OK. I'm more taken with the vampy vamp and the drama mage than Our Hero though. Must be hard/daft to maintain 3 threads in 6 page instalments. What other stories have attempted this? Trifecta had three separate serials to do it!

Quote from: Southstreeter on 19 August, 2023, 04:04:57 PMThere must be a word for the excitement you feel when you find a Saturday prog on the mat, immediately followed by the disappointment when you realise it's a subscriber's contractual obligation regened prog.
Ha. I got the regened prog today too and had that very sensation. Very rarely do I get a Saturday prog.

White text for spoilers.

I've never much enjoyed Lowborn High but I got more out of it this time. The initial pages of setup and flashback were a grind, agree with the particular storytelling issue Colin pointed out, and seeing pages of characters in dull school uniforms is dispiriting, but once they move on from the uniforms and are doing something interesting it rather carried me along. The depiction of the djinn was pretty good, and everyone likes a cliffhanger. Right? The coven stuff I have no idea what's going on or why and it's hard to care about.

Cadet Dredd was quite enjoyable with a very nice light-touch and fun art style, with lots going on in most panels. Regened could do with a bit more zany. Sure one might question the Justice Department security protocols, and whoever thought of putting a frickin' laser beam in the data centre might want to think again. Did wonder how Dredd escaped censure for his assault on the exchange cadet...

Future Shock agree with Colin, although I liked the robot cop design. I like the Willsmer droid's covers, but the painting feels a bit heavy in this strip.

Renk I struggled to get through. There seemed to be some backstory from the last story that I'd forgotten. Art's good.
