Megazine / Re: Meg 218

I thought Meg 218 was so much better than Meg 217.

Well, Satanus is one of those all-time great monster villains, and he made a somewhat inglorious return in the Megazine recently. But your question refers specifically to 2000ad, doesn't it?

Dr. X ! How can you lump Firekind in with Mambo?

That's like saying Dead Men Walking and Synnamon were no worse than Skizz, Killing Time or Leviathan.

Synnamon and Dead Men Walking were not top-drawer strips, and neither was Durham Red, which returned in the same prog both these strips began in. The fact that three relatively weak strips started at the same time did neither them nor 2000ad any favours.

Dead Men Walking entertained me a little. Synnamon didn't at all.

Of the two, bad as they both were, Synnamon was worse.

What about way back when Alec Trench materialised outside the Nerve Centre and plummeted to the ground? Or in Tornado, in The Mind of Wolfie Smith, when one of the crooks fell of the parapet on top of that country mansion? "Nyaaaaargh!"

"Mind the oranges Marlon!" - single best moment in Dr. & Quinch ever.

(Okay, not sure what Progs the robot war was seen in Robo-hunter. The story finished in Prog 112.)

Let's have another. Oh, I know - "gaze into the fist of Dredd!" that was pretty cool.

The first ever episode of Zenith. Amazing.

And the Judge Child quest. They started off looking for a missing boy in the Cursed Earth. They get a lead that takes them to Texas City, which introduces a pretty damn exciting and nutty danger park, visualised by McMahon... and then - no way! - they actually have to go into space to try to bring back the boy??? Whoah! Awesome.

When Halo Jones found that Brynna was murdered, and Ludy had joined the Different Drummers and thrown her future away; when it emerged that Toby was Brynna's killer, and when Toby burst out of the furnace; when Toy Molto died, and when Halo encountered the temporal distortion of the Crush on Moab.

When Johnny Alpha encountered the horsemen of the Apocalypse in Hell. And then again when they got to the city of Hate and had to try to collect a ticket each to get out again. The weird Brothers. The Wailing Swamp. The Black Citadel. All of that.

I knew I was reading the Galaxy's greatest comic when Judge Souster took out the Dan Tanna junction with a stub-gun.

...But with Asylum I could never see what the fuss was about ('is this going to finish anytime soon?', etc.)

Surely the pathos was a direct steal from Of Mice and Men anyway.

I reckon why Pat tied in or crossed over a lot of his stories (Dredd, Nemesis, ABC warriors, Flesh, etc.) was because it was fun.

Brilliant idea! I've only seen two pages of this: the two small pictures accompanying the news item on the 2000ad online home page. And they look great. I'm with The Satanist on this one (can't believe I just typed that). Let's have a read of the thing first rather than gazing into our crystal balls to see whether or not we come out disappointed or elated having read it.

(really, I'm not planning on popping into the t-shirt shop to get one printed with the words "I'm With The Satanist", and a little arrow to the side...)

Hear hear. It's all very well complaining about people having a go at Pat Mills, but every time someone complains about it, it prompts those of us who dislike his recent work to justify our feelings on the matter, which turns any thread into a pro- vs. anti- Pat Mills debate.

Now, what was this thread about, again?
