Off Topic / Re: who's in the creative industry...

'bout the only thing I do creativley is paint miniatures - which is tooth related as the first mini I ever painted was the GW version of Dredd on his Lawmaster! I've been painting ever since, and I've been intending to start selling comissions  - I've received some positive responses from some of the creative types at GW HQ (where I work has a unit nearby).  But I cant draw for toffees!

I have nothing but respect for EVERYONE on here who can draw, paint or etch a good picture!

yup - there used to be a american sized anthology out about 2 years ago - it did quite well, then for some unknown and completley insane reason they binned it! Another in a great line of business FUBARs on GW part....

Cheers David - I just thought that the way the press release read it was that Dabnett was writing and Tony Lee was on art duties....

Thanks for clearing that up.

From what I hear on the 40k boards (and from Lenton) the stuff that will be produced is NOT a continuation of the old warhammer comic - it will be one story per issue - with arcs running for a few issues before moving over to a different arc.

'July 18, 2006 Los Angeles, CA? Boom! Studios announced today the launch of a comic book series based on Games Workshop Group PLC?s tabletop war game Warhammer 40,000. The UK based company selected Boom! Studios to create a series exploring the rich Warhammer 40,000 universe that will satisfy their most ardent fans while still being accessible to those looking for an awesome Science Fiction story.

"We are thrilled to be in business with one of the biggest powerhouses on the entertainment landscape worldwide," BOOM! Studios publisher Ross Richie stated. "Games Workshop is a truly innovative business manufacturing, distributing, and retailing their own product and creating some of the most exciting Intellectual Property to work on. This is going to herald a great new era for BOOM!."

The Warhammer 40,000 series will debut in San Diego with a special preview book for sale at the Boom! studios booth (1531), with issue #1 set for release in the month of October.

Warhammer 40,000 is set in a dark, forbidding, future, ravaged by thousands of years of conflict. Across this gothic universe armies struggle for victory in a battle to the death. Foremost among Humanity?s defenders are the fearless Space Marines: genetically engineered super-warriors who are armed with the best weapons available. Supporting them are the vast armies of the Emperor, made up of legions of men and the tanks of the Imperial Guard. Against these loyal troops are ranged the alien armies of the Tau, savage Orks, enigmatic Eldar and unfathomable Tyranids. And always, lurking in the shadows, there is the unholy taint of Chaos: once-loyal Space Marines now turned traitor and in the service of the unspeakable Daemon Lords of Chaos.

It seems that Dan Abnett and Tony Lee are working on "Warhammer" and "Warhammer 40K" books for little-publisher-that-could, Boom! Studios. Editor Chris Stone was working on the books when Speakeasy had the license.'

Yet another reason we haven't seen anymore SinDex in a while then.... Must say I'm looking forward to this though.

Can't say I that I've come across Tony Lee as an artist though?http://upload4.postimage.org/644651/warhammer.jpg">

In the scenario's I was used to, a Genestealer infestation of a planet would result in said planet being destroyed to prevent further contamination as 6th generation Genestealers were identical to human.

But that was such a long time ago now.

Yup - that's true - but GW retcon their backgorund more often than most teenagers change their socks...

Tyranids are basically Locusts - stripping worlds of all the biomatter  - think Galactus in a big bee costume...

I had heard the reason that Relic hadn't put 'nids in was down to enabling faction play - the 'nids would just tip the balance - but I also heard that GW had other plans for a game with them in and didn't want them involved - a new PC version of Space Hulk maybe?

You specifically mentioned the 12th - and from that I infer you mean the commemoration of the Battle of the Boyne (which, after checking the facts, was 316 years ago) by the Orange Order, who feel that the ability to march through predominately Catholic areas is a staple of their human rights, an activity that has come to symbolise the Protestants superiority and control over the Catholics. Am I right?

Now as for have I been to Belfast - yes, on several occasions, mainly to go to gigs at the Odyysey Arena - a bloody good venue! So yes, I ahve had good nights out - I just think that a group of bigoted old farts who want to intimidate the rest of the community aren't something that should have a 'happy 12th!' celebration - it's a bit like saying 'happy 14th!' and holding a parade of british soldiers through the streets of Dresden...

But I take your point about Belfast being a good night out - it isn't bad - but not as good as Dublin.

hmmm.... yeah  - walk through a opposing religions housing estates, crowing about a battle that they won 200 (or so) years ago, whilst throwing stones, rocks, petrol bombs and each other at the police, all the time scaring the locals witless.

Sounds like a cracking night out!

Only problem I had with these books was as I got older, and a little more genned up on religion it ocurred to me that they were just a thinly veiled Mormon allegory (silver discs? come on!).

But in saying that - the second 3 (the Twins novels) were better.
