Website and Forum / The Truth about Nessie
10 May, 2004, 03:02:50 PM
interesting link to this site I was put onto, Its about a guy who claims to of worked on a Documentry about the Loch Ness Monster. Apparently two people went missing and a whole heap of shit happened. Found the site quite entertaining but someone should mention Blair Witch Project to em cause Nessie aint scary enough(I am refering to the fact that i think its a promo site for a new movie done the same way as Blair Witch). Question for the Scotts on board..Nessie Real or tourist atraction?

General / Prog 662 near perfection
01 May, 2004, 03:22:25 PM
Just started rating some older back issues I've picked up a while ago but just managed to read and I just thought I'd comment on how brilliant I think the prog was then. How could people possibly say this is when the rot set in, one or two average stories for filler (Bradly)and one big story i didn't like(Bix Shitton) all else, Tooth in top form IMHO.
Here's my ratings for Prog662
7-Cover
10-Chopper Song of the Surfer(one of my all time favs)
9-The Dead Man(brilliant B&W art)
9-Tale of the Dead Man(top Dredd yarn, good set up for Necropolis)
9-Zenith Phase 3 War in Heaven(once again top B&W art and made me like superhero's)
9-Slain The Horned God Book2(Biz at his best, one of the great Slain tales)
And i'd just like to say I think Prog661 is the Greatest cover ever to grace tooth.
Anyway just thought I'd start one last thread befor I go, actually we're staying open for one more week so I'll be around a bit longer..

General / Goodbye cruel world!!!!
21 April, 2004, 03:33:43 PM
Glad the boards back up gives me a chance to say goodbye. Due to unforseen(well I saw em coming) circumstances my job ends in about a week and a half and as I have no internet access at home I guess I'll be taking a break from this board :(. Thankyou to all the regulars who make this place the fun place it is, and to all the lurkers and sometime contributers I'd like to say get into it, people here are great and as long as you don't troll they're the friendliest bunch of Icons around so do your self a favour and join in the fun.  I'll be around for the next week or so but after that its bye(unless I find another wonderful job with internet access and lots of spare time)for now.

Film & TV / Texas Chainsaw massacre and 28 Day Later
23 March, 2004, 12:17:24 PM
wow, having never seen the original(just bits)I must say this is one nasty(in a good way) mother of a movie. It takes a hell of a lot to get a scream out of me and while Massacre has a couple of jumpy bits its the overall feel of the movie that disturbs me the most, never have I felt so unsettled as I did after watching this last night, from the catatonic hitch hiker at the start to the crazy relization that

......everyone in the area's in on it or related to the family, Police, no help from them, strange recluses living in the caravan....nope no help there.
The horror as the trucky starts driving back towards the roadhouse, not dissapointed and by far one of the best Horror movies I've seen this year.
I've been waiting ages to se 28 Days Later as it only had a limited release in the cinema over here. What can I say about the first half except awsome, totally pants shittingly scary. I'm a bit of a Silent Hill fan and the ambience in the first half of the film really reminded me of the game, I think it was more the music than anything else.  Fast Flaming zombies what a scene, the only problem I have with this movie is it seemed to change from a zombie/horror movie to a survivalist thriller once they got out of the city, rather than all that deep we're the last remanents of humanity lets rebuild society shit i think it would've worked better keeping it in the city and keeping the infected as the major threat not the military. STill thouroughly enjoyed it though. So thats 2 of the current crop down, might get out Cabin fever tonight see if thats as good as i've been told.
Feel free to add what you thought of these movies or any reviews of the current horror lot would be welcome too.

Off Topic / for the Dr Who fans....
19 March, 2004, 01:11:56 PM
it seems the Daleks may well be one of the foes featured in the new series just read this in the paper
"After much legal jousting it seems that the legendary space robots(had a laugh at that), The Daleks, will return to our TV screens along with a new Dr Who. It seemed at one stage that the estate oof the late writer Terry Nation would stop the use of the Daleks but the negotiations have had a new development and the producers of the show are expecting a result in their favor"
Had know idea there were legal probs over the Daleks but they were always my second favorite Doctor enimies(I like Cybermen more)and I did expext to see them in the new series. Anyone got more info or links for the new series?

from our local paper today
"The Passion of the Christ, the movie personally financed by Mel Gibson because no studio thought it would be commercially viable, could become the highest grossing film in history.By the end of Sunday it had taken$357.34 millionin the US and Canada. if it continues on this trajectory The Passion could surpass Star wars($622.8million)and even Titanic($811.67million)".
looking at these figures and concidering its only been on limited release in US and a couple of other countries I think this is entirely possible. Anyone seen it, do you think its rating so well because of the extreme sadistic violence. We know teens love violence so that maybe the reason. So know we gonna get a remake of The Ten Commandments with full on depictions of slaves getting mutilated by their masters, those that worshipped the False Idol in the original movie would certainly be fodder for some sick torture befor being thrown of the clff...
I just think its ironic(if thats the right use of the word Floyd)that a story about love and peace has been turned into this...for want of a better description "Video Nasty"

General / Re: wrong extreme

woah!!! well thats your opinion and your entitled to it, haven't read the offending EE yet but I imagine its an old kids action story no more believable or seriouse than anything else from that time period. Just remember it is a comic and in the 70's comics were aimed at kids not the voting public. Also try to read something befor you condemn it(with regards to the new Savage strip) something that happens here a bit too much IMO.

Not a US hater or even Bush hater but how in the hell did this happen? surely there's been more conflict in the world since he got in rather than less, kinda doesn't fit the criteria for the peace prize eh!!!
anyone wanna coment or nominate someone more deserving.

25 February, 2004, 01:39:21 PM
Having just finished Top Ten and Watchmen you can probably tell I'm on a Alan Moore kick at the mo, having only just realized how brilliant he is so a few more questions for the masses.
anyone wanna give me a rundown on Vendetta's plot, when it came out, what the arts like?
what other Moore GN's are out there?
has he ever written any mainstream characters like Superman etc(not counting Swampthing)?

General / Watchmen comic and movie
24 February, 2004, 02:52:45 PM
Just finished reading this wonderful GN, took a little bit to get into couldn't put down as it progressed. Thats one hell of a complex plot in there and I'll tell you it certainly didn't go where I expected it to. I can now see how without this  groundbreaking series comics would've stayed for kids and none of these brilliant series that are around now(Y last man, Top Ten, Preacher, Supreme Power etc)would never of seen the light of day. Question for the fans-is that it or were there further adventures of Night Owl and Silk spectre?, So Ozmidious got away with it?, what about prequals were there ever any(about the New Minutemen). Over all absolutly mind blowing, on another thread I heard someone mention A Watchmen movie, is this still happening? and how the hell would they fit such a complex plot into a single 2 hour movie without F#$king it up?. Also what year did it originaly come out in and was it a hit on release or only on collection?. Sorry lots of questions there but if you have no answers I'd be happy to hear what other people thought about it, I'm just on such a high after reading it I need more info....All my GN's I brought in Perth(2nd) a couple of weeks ago are read, all brilliant(except I doubled up on my Ultimate Xmen GN's) need more GN's.....

General / Megacity Tales
30 January, 2004, 02:13:54 PM
mention of Download tales on another thread reminded me of an idea I had a while ago about similar stories set in the Meg. I think this would be great as we all know the star of the Dredd strip is more often than not Megacity one, you could tell a huge range of stories about all sorts of non judicial things, see life through the eye's of a "NORMAL" Megacitizen, what do they really think of the Judges, what do you do at resyk when you work there(if they even employ humans). It would allow writers to really go to town on some crazy idea's all the while ex[panding Dreddies universe, guest stars like Demarco PI etc. I think it would be good.

Other Reviews / Krestels Anime' round up
21 January, 2004, 02:54:43 PM
Been bored at work today so thought I'd do a quick round up of current Anime' we can get in Australia, these are all released by AV Channel under the Madman banner so not sure on availability over there...
New Series
-Last Exile(GONZO:Full Metal Panic, Hellsing):Retro Action/Adventure Fantasy set on a planet dominated by retro-futuristic airships. Follows the exploits of two young Van-ship(small airships) pilots who work for a delivery company and become entangled in a war between two countries.  this series starts with a bang its almost action from the word go with the two main characters thrown into the war with in the first ten minutes.  First disc spends its time introducing us to the world and tech through an outstanding intro battle, the main story involving a mysterious young girl and rebel Air-ship pilots(I'm guessing they're rebels at the moment)just starts to get going in episode 4 the last on the disc leaving you hanging for the next disc.  This is simply the most spectacular anime' I've seen since Blood:the last Vampire with a state of the art blending of CGI an cell animation, it's up there with Disneys latest efforts, 7 discs due in the series aswell.
WXIII:Patlabor The Movie 3 is the latest from Production I.G studios(Blood:The Last Vampire, Kai-doh-maru), When several deadly Labor accidents suddenly strike Tokyo Bay, veteran police detectives, Kusumi and his young partner, Hata, take on the case. Each detective applies his own style of investigation, but neither is prepared for the international labyrinth of decite thats about to unfold, I paraphrased the description off the back of the cover as I'd have no idea how to summerise the plot without spoilers needless to say this is one nice movie, certainly not for the gore hound or action junky it moves at a slow pace playing out more like a Live action Thriller than an Sci-fi anime' anyone whos already seen the other two Patlabor movies will know what to expect.
More to come when I get around to it.....

Help! / The Bogie man?
09 January, 2004, 01:42:00 PM
just read the interview with Wagner on this site and he mentions that his fav work is The Bogieman which he co-wrote with Grant, now I've seen other people mention this title on other threads but I've never heard of it. Could someone give me a quick rundown on what its about...also is it hard to get hold of or should I be able to get it from the nearest(700km's away)comic store. Not too fussed if there's spoilers in your reply just wondering if I'd like it...

General / Fantasy books you would like to see as movies
19 December, 2003, 03:20:23 PM
With the success of LOTR its only a matter of time befor the studios start puming em out, what books or series would you like to see in film?
The D&D movie was such shit why couldnt they of used
The Dragon Lance Chronicles as a basis would of been a much better movie IMO.  Old Julian May Series Exiles would be awsome, wicked mix of sci-fi and fantasy. If Robert Jordan ever finishes The Wheel Of Time series it might make a decent high budget TV series. One I'd really like to see would be The Fall of the Malazan series by Steven Erikson best fantasy series I've read in the last couple of years, once again it would have to be a high budget TV series as its still not finnished...anyone else got any favs....
