Prog / Re: Prog 1545 city of the living d...

"What, even including his habit of drawing at least one character in every episode that looks like they've beaten to an unrecognisable pulp?"

That's an enviable talent when the story actually does contain someone who has been beaten to a pulp though!

Ah, this is just more fuel for my rant - I think he's a good artist and he definately has a style all his own.

Sometimes I like his stuff more than other times - I wasn't as keen on some of the earlier lowlife strips but thought the later ones were very nice.

Anyway, I'll save this for when Mandroid 2 starts.....

I'm not feeling the love for John Higgins of lateâ?¦..so please allow me to offer some.

The first prog I ever bought was prog 456 with the Dredd story (IIRC) being 'Beggars Banquet' (which I think might be in the next case files...).

I used to love John's work on Judge Dredd - check out the excellent 'Democracy' stories.

As for his colour work, I would recommend to everyone and anyone that they check out the 1988 Dredd Annual (and the 6 issue series 'World Without End').

They both impressed me at the timeâ?¦.and still do.
Others that stick in my mind are his 'Judda' covers for Oz, and the 'Rogue-Trooper-in-space-with-breathing-mask' cover from the (s)Hit storyline.

His style in recent years became less defined and more cartoony but I certainly wouldn't offer any criticism on his work to date on Greysuit which I think has been really good (though I'm not so sure about the strip as a whole).

My next rant in support of much maligned artists may well be for Simon Coleby - after re-reading the 'Realpolitik' Rogue book I was really impressed with his work.

So I'm definitely looking forward to Mandroid 2.
In fact, if my better half wasn't reaching breaking point with the amount of comic art I have hanging on the walls, I'd buy a page of his Rogue. Curses.

Film & TV / Re: Moore Watchmen
26 July, 2007, 07:47:32 PM
Well, after owning the graphic novel for several years - I have only today finished it for the first time (after a previous false start).

It is indeed a fantastic piece of work - Moore and Gibbons are brillian on every page.
Perhaps John Higgins was a bit too technicolor but you can't have anything.

I can't think that a film could ever do this justice - I wouldn't even bother and echo Mr Tordelback's sentiments.

Now to finish 'From Hell' - two thirds in and I just felt too grubby and depressed to continue! Another top notch piece of writing though.

Books & Comics / Re: S/D Agency Files 02

I couldn't track it down anywhere - which was the same thing that happened when I tried to get the first one - so I have also been forced to order it online through Amazon.

Strange that I managed to get all the other books released fairly easily - it just seems to be tricky getting hold of the Strontium Dog ones.

Noisybast - I think it's her left eye is too far over. The same problem is in panel 5.....its easily fixable in photoshop, but I think I'll just let it stand (I'm forever tinkering with these things....and it's not healthy).

I made it to someones wallpaper :-)
Shiny helmet accepted - you are right - got carried away with my squiggly lines when it was still going to be a black & White strip.

...and the amount of time it took me to colour this in I think I would be a completely broke illustrator.

This is also my support for the 'bring back the original logo' campaign.

(Dave - still doing the colours on the one-pager for Futurequake - I promise you will get it... eventually. Is there a deadline?).

Thanks for the comments chaps much appreciated.

As I said - drawn for fun, hence the horrible storytelling issues - normally wouldn't have devoted a third of a page to a Dredd headshot - but I just wanted to :-)

The 'Critchlow' is in the colouring method I guess (though I have used that trick for quite a long while now).
As for the McMahon.....I was mortified fairly recently when the man himself looked at my website and commented '..a very familiar Dredd' (...in a positive way of course).

So I guess I can't deny that one.

Anyway, assuming the link attached works ok, I have managed to get a better quality version up on my site - and a black & white version (the original intention - as you can see I'm not much of a colourist).

Cheers.

Just a bit of fun - done to keep me sane whilst studying for my last exam - thought you might like a look.

Hope it's readable.

Script by 'The Qmoq' - the rest by me :-)http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l150/Simonipenter/DreddVText2.jpg">

In my opinion the absolute best version are the three original Titan book reprints - the paper quality is good, the reproduction is good, you get three great covers (and they are great), three cool insert pages and an introduction in each book.

My opinion here is based on owning these three books, the original comics, the casefiles, the Eagle reprints and the full collected Titan editions.

Book 1 and 3 are currently available on ebay as 'Buy Now' for £3.99 each (cheaper when I bought them the first time around) - unfortunately the book 2 on there will currently cost you a starting bid of 9.99 (still worth it).

As for 'whats wrong with the case files?' - well, it's ok to read but probably the poorest format you  could go for in terms of printing quality and size (and you lose some of the pages into the spine of the book).

Absolutely thrilled to get hold of them (these are excerpts from the two pages I got).

Personally I loved McMahon's art in the recent prog (as I may have said in the review thread....) - and it has definately been my favourite artwork to appear in recent memory.

More work for Mick McMahon please!

Rufus's origins interlude was also another  highlight for me. Great stuff.

Anyway, I consider myself incredibly lucky today as these just came in the post....a dream come true for.http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l150/Simonipenter/Page3.jpg">
