Hi,

yeah, it wasn't really a desire to see it, more it seemed a bit conspicuous by it's absence.

General / America in Dante's World

Hi,

has there ever been any mention of America in Nikolai Dante's world?

Britain, China, Africa and the Pacific have all appeared, but I can't remember America ever being mentioned - were they destroyed allowing the Empire to expand?

Cheers,

Steve

I just find the hypocrisy of the celeb magazines depressing.

On the one hand you'll have sites like that, or Heat jumping on people for being too fat/thin/without makeup etc., and on the other you have the amount of photoshoppery that goes on.

Film & TV / Re: ...RAAAHHHH!!!, PRIMEVAL EPISO...

I'm curious to see how it goes, if it gets expanded to a longer second series.

Despite being called Primeval, I could see them tweaking it so they end up with far future creatures/humans as well, along the lines of that Dougal Dixon book that was doing the rounds a few years ago.

Better than I was expecting it to be, and a lot less disappointing than Robin Hood and Torchwood was.

I took it that after his attentions had totally wrecked the ng (even more than I thought was possible) it was too poisonous even for him, and he snuck back on here somehow.

Maybe it wasn't him, but it was a good impression if not.

I did start on Dredd, but got about as far as the helmet. The toughest thing on Dredd is the eagle, since it could involve quite a bit of complicated rigging to make it move well.

If I won the lottery and didn't have to pay the mortgage, I would love to do something more substantial...

Heh - well in a perfect world it would be a Land Raider :)

Actually I plan to replace that shot with some vehicle of my own design, as always it's finding the time to do it.

Hi,

it's pretty much 3DS Max and Combustion for compositing stuff together.

Most 3D programmes are pretty much equally capable these days - cloth and hair tend to be the features missing from the lower priced ones.

Hi,

I haven't tried playing it through realplayer - do you have the standard Windows Media Player on your machine?

It should work through that - generally if the video codec is missing, you wouldn't get any video at all.

It's Passacaglia from the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack by Bear MacReary.

Ta very much - I'm tempted to make the robot a 40ft high engine of destruction, but then I should really do something with old Nemesis as well...

Hi,

yeah, the Futuristic City near the beginning was based on the Meg - especially the McMahon style domed cityblocks.

It's pretty much all my own work except for the cartoon characters (I did the backgrounds/compositing effects on the first bunch, and the boats on the second one)

The models of the oil rigs were someone else (I did the effects and compositing on those)

And the game stuff I mostly did the lighting and effects and a couple of models.

Apart from that (and the music of course), it's my stuff.

Thanks for the testing on the Mac - there are a couple of versions of Windows Media Files so an older one might be more compatible with Macs as well.

Cheers

Cheers guys,

A friend tested it on the Mac, and it did display but was jerky... not sure if it was peculiar to his or something I'm doing wrong my end for Mac users.

Hi,

I wondered if a few people could just test whether my new showreel works OK on their PCs (or Macs even)

Telewest/Virgin Media have upped my webspace which means I could create the reel at a higher bitrate and resolution, but I'm not sure if it will work OK on the majority of PCs or not.

It's about 50Meg.

Cheers,

Steve
