The giant rabbit riding thing? I thought that whole sequence could have been cut without it affecting the outcome.

Laura Dern's brilliant plan involved no-one on half a dozen star-destroyers looking out of the fucking window?Yes I know they said they were cloaked, but they looked pretty visible when she was watching them peel off.

Rose's intervention was wank (of the first order) so to speak - that and the little rascals at the end.... ugh.

Some spectacularly great bits like the beginning battle, bafflingly flat delivery by Daisy Ridley at times, was half expecting her to end a sentence with Ro-land at times.

Too much self-referencing, out of character dialogue - 'A page turner'

Was that Ackbar getting a shitty death?

So agree on the smaller and smaller scale of everything
No probs Proudhuff!

I've not heard any guests confirmed or even mentioned so far - Mick did the last one, and seemed to have a good time.

Apart from tickets on sale Jan/Feb, not really - doubt they'd announce any guests until then in case circumstances change and anyone has to cancel due to work etc.

People are mainly talking about hotels to book etc. on the fb group.

A look at any of Carlos' commissions and I would say it's got little to do with age, and more with how much he gets paid on strip work.

You get what you pay for.

A quick scribble.

Judge Fire does Christmas Dinner.

Guess it's a takeaway then.

First : 2016 Texas Hold 'Em by Alex Ronald. Bright MacNeilesque colours - really stands out.

Second: 2027 Lawman of Steel by Matt Ferguson - Dynamic, good to see a judge other than Dredd on the cover and enjoyed the storyline

Third: 2029 Fear Me by Dave Kendall - Lot of love of for this, fantastically creepy and gruesome for a cover, but maybe a little too subdued in colour overall for a cover (difficult with the subject matter I know) - probably my fave as a piece of art, but the others jump out more.

I think he was asked about it here.

I seem to remember the answer Pat giving as no, but not sure where in the interview it is.

I don't often chip in on criticising these days, but I'm going to make an exception to the God lettering on Slaine and why I think it doesn't work at all.

Hand letterers like Tom Frame, Steve Potter, Dave Gibbons were very restrained in the use of non-standard lettering for special cases, such as the Dark Judges, Spirit Torquemada, Aliens, and the Biochips.

The heavy lifting is done by the style of the balloons, whether it's the dripping Dark Judges, twisted Torque or the scalloped balloons of the biochips, the type rarely changes.

Even in the case of the Dark Judges, dripping type is reserved for when it's needed and drops back to more regular lettering for the rest of the strip.

Examples.

Dark Judges drippy

but not for the rest

There just needs to be more attention paid as to why things worked in the past.

Just my two cents.

Hmm.

Will have to see what guests are there.

John and Carlos are doing ICE at the beginning of the month. May just do that instead.

Plenty complete Kennedy I'd imagine, but not totted up what's already been printed.

Bolland - doubt it. There aren't that many complete Bolland stories that are standalone.

I can't see them going the IDW route of printing odd stories from an epic, or a centre spread from Luna 1.

Yeah it's a distinction between 2000AD and Marvel/DC characters.

Sam Slade usually loses.

Johnny Alpha has a pretty patch record on saving the day.

Dredd failed to stop the Apocalypse War happening, and eventually the near destruction of MC-1. He also failed to prevent Necropolis, The Judge Child quest was pretty much a wild-goose chase.

Interestingly Pat's Cursed Earth journey had him as the hero, and Garth ended up nuking his temporary success.

Ace Garp is definitely a loser.

Nemesis is outside your usual heroics.

Rogue is a bit of a weird one because his victory effectively ends the strip. But then it all goes a bit crap after achieving his victory.

Or in praise of the scalping robots of Grunwalder's territory.

Grud rest ye hairy metal men.
