Interesting thoughts Dudley...ehat do you mean by Rogue Trooper?? I think rogue was GREAT as an original character but rebooting him thru Friday just seemed lame. Maybe Rogue had reached the end of his natural life, but Friday just seemed wrong. They went thru a phase where everything seemed to be changed at once. I've only just come back on board so I can't comment on the death-return of ABC Warriors (I loved those guys) and Slaine, but I'm looking forward to see what's coming next. All in all, its a good time to be a 2000AD fan, thats how I feel.

Maybe the return story could bring them both back!! But yeh I agree with you-Rage (and the prequel) was an awesome story, but it did mean the end for Wulf, sadly. I don't have the real answer. But if I was Wagner and going to bring back Johnny to real-time, it might be tempting to bring Wulf back with him. I know thats a controversial statement, but I know exactly how you feel.

Bur isn't it already accepted that in 2000AD, especially in regards to SDog and Judge Dredd, its parallel worlds? Or is Alpha's world in the future??

Yeh I agree with you about it all, but its funny that my first issues of Nemesis were Book 7, which was drawn by John Hinkleton, and its funny because I loved that artwork!!!! Then as the Monthlys went by, I fell in love with all the old Nemesis series, which were well cool. My fave story was the one where Nemesis, Torquey, and the ABC Warriors all travel to the end of the Earth or something. I loved it. Oh well, life is change I guess!!! :-) and yep the Bradley stories were really funny!! I just think that artist was WRONG WRONG WRONG for Johnny!!

I agree with you Paul, those stories from the past are really good-but if John comes up with something really magic, let the man tell the story I say. Yep Colin Macneil was fine, I liked some of the stuff he used to on dredd too, it was the other guy who really f*cked things up!!! I still wonder why did somone come up with great ideas like, "lets get rid of the proper Rogue Trooper, and lets kill off Johnny Alpha, and yeh we'll just take it from there!!!!" Some editoral genius, or just plain coincidence??? I'm surprised the comic survived the 90's. and thats with all due respect.

Really? I don't know, I was reading the comic when they killed off Johnny, and I thought it was one of the worst ends to ANY story I'd ever read in 2000AD. I do know, they took Carlos Ezquerraoff drawing duties just prior to "The Final Solution', replacing him with some total chump who could barely draw a straight line...BIG MISTAKE!! I remember thinking, "if thats the Final Solution, I'd hate to have seen the first one!!" :-) Also it was like a 40 part "adventure", with split artists and when this guy drew, you couldn't tell what was happening-it was half-guesswork following the story. Come to think of it, maybe Wagner didn't write it...anybody else know????

Surely there is a story that could bring Johnny back from the dead?? IMO Strontium Dogs minus Johnny bit the big one!! I think its great he's doing these stories with Wulf but what about a major MAJOR time-travel story or something, like about 12 or 14 parts, that brings Johnny back to the present. For the record, my fave Strontium Dog story is The Killing, I don't think anyone can top that. Also Malak Brood. Classics. Thoughts on bringing Johnny back from the dead? I read somewhere on this board once that killing Johnny was Wagner's biggest regret in comics...

General / Thoughts on collecting 2000AD again...
25 October, 2003, 01:49:24 PM
Well folks, I received my first two issues of 2000AD again, after about a decade off. Progs 1357 & 1358. My thoughts? Good. Not great, but good, and at least trying to be a bit different from your average US comic. I loved Dredd, especially "Club Sov", only caught the very end of "The Tax Dodge" but it looked like the conclusion to another fine Alpha tale. Jumped in right in the middle or end of Leviathan but liked it straight away, didn't like Sinster Dexter much when I picked up a couple of progs 6 or so months ago, but the art was *awesome* in this story. Good enough. From Grace-sorry not my cup of tea. But overall, I'm impressed. But i want to see Johnny back, (I wish he was weekly like Dredd) ABC Warriors, and some of the other classic stuff; like Rogue. But I like new stuff as well, so I'm happy to sit back and enjoy it for awhile. The good thing is Dredd is there evry week- I like that.

General / Re: Necropolis Vs Judgement Day......

Yep. it does have a great last page, but overall, Necropolis kicks Judgements Day's butt. Johnny Alpha redeems some of Judgement Day's long-windiness, but the villian is far less threatening than the Sisters of Death. It probably should have been a long-term Alpha villian, to give the story more edge-I'm correct in saying Sabbat never appeared beofre in Strontium Dog or Judge Dredd am I?
