Mutomaniac was originally intended to be a 48 page one shot - so at least we can tell how many pages there are missing.

However, as Gordon has pointed out, theres a lot of other factors at play here....ah well, we can dream....

News / Wagner does the TimeWarp!!!
05 March, 2003, 06:07:00 PM
Tripwire magazine features an interview with John Wagner where he discusses Dredd movies new and old, as well as revealing he is working on a story set in the past - "based around the origins of the Judicial system and the Great War".  And a certain Dredd fanzine producing boarder is helping with the research apparently.... hurrah!

My tale of the Deadman has two pages the wrong wqay as well.  Titan released the B&W Deadman - IIRC it was their last of the original Dredd chronicles they put out.

Yeah - I've got the original Deadman book, so I'm going to read the lot when book 2 comes out - without it (and without Bloodline), you've got a lot of catching up to do! - A bit like trying to read the Apocalypse War before reading Block Mania, but much more so!

Suggestions / Necropolis Now!
05 March, 2003, 02:13:47 AM
Hurrah! Got hold of Necropolis Book 1 in Forbidden Planet today for ?12.99 rather than the ?16.99 rrp - some sort of promotional offer thingy?  Good to see the message boarders suggestions about including unpublished stuff has borne fruit, both here and in the forthcoming Anderson book Triad.  Shame there was no space for the "Letter to Judge Dredd" story that precedes "Tale of", as thats quite important in Dredds resignation - what about a black and white collection of the "Question of/Error of Judgement/Case for Treatment", followed by "Bloodline" from 583 and 584 (never before reprinted!), plus the Ridgeway Deadman stuff? Reading the collection as it stands, it does throw you into the middle of things without at least Deadman and Bloodline... Will anyone listen to our pleas now Jamie has moved on...?

Prog / Re: prog 1330

Yeah, the cover is great:  I'd have no objections to reading about a cool, great big fight if it was a stand alone read, but having to stretch it out over 16 weeks doesnt seem the most enjoyable way  - I expect that as a collection, this will read a lot better (though they said that about Helter Skelter :)).

Few thoughts on 1330

Dredd/Aliens:  Lots of killing, but its all a bit shallow.  The earlier intrigue surrounding the Anti Judge fellahs being replaced by barking villain with handy access to the Grand Hall has reduced my interest in this story considerably.  Still, things might turn around still ? 6 more parts to go?
Even though it seems to have been written with the 6 page cliff-hanger requirement in mind, it still seems overly drawn out in the weekly.

Telguuth: handy meteor?  Don?t know whether to laugh or cry - not really sure if Steve Moore wants us to laugh or cry either, which isn?t a good sign?.

VCs: As other people have commented, the space dog fights just don?t seem to be generating much excitement ? they all look a little 2D and stilted.

General / Re: Capital Punishment

As far as I can recall, there is no Death penalty for citizens - in the earliest progs, even crimes like Judge Killing were only punishable by isocube time.  Dredd has executed "enemies of the state" during wartime... thats about the only time I can recall Dredd shooting people who had surrendered....  If anything Dredd goes to ludicrous lengths to ensure criminals serve their time - see the story "Forever Towers" where we learn that Justice Dept keep critically injured crims on ice until such a time as medical science has advanced to cure thewm: death is the easy way out!

Someone out there has a page of MACH 1 from the dummy issue of 2000AD - it was up for auction a few years ago - it shows Probe pulling some guys arms out of their sockets!
