Congrats

Exactly what PVS said - surely the reason any mag runs a feature is because it will attract people interested in said feature.

The number of magazines or newspapers I would have bought if I'd only been tipped off.  Its a win-win situation - we get to know about the article, therefore we buy more copies of said magazine and Rebellion look good for shifting a few more units.

Chopper - great minds think alike - Wagner has used the idea of Judge Spotters in at least one story...

I think you only have to see the number of posts the off topic threads get to be reassured that theres a market for em, Karne... If people didnt like em, they wouldnt post to them and they'd start their own serious threads.

"He's got way too many super-duper overly-handly weapons, gadgets and mutant abilities"

I like all the gizmos - its rare that a gizmo in Stront is used as a get out for a particularly vital plot point.  Caballistics had its fair share of Hands of Power, Lamps of Alhazred, Infernal tide timepieces, and newly discovered psychic abilities...... and I'd say that that was one of it's strengths - these kind of trimmmings give a distinctive flavour to the strip.

I agree with you about the hairstyle though - he needs sideburns with a mop like that... :)

Well looking at mbanners previous posts, it seems this is possibly the first time he's ever given such a brief 'critique' of a story.

I don't agree with half of his opinions, but they all seem very well thought out and sensible.  I just think it's time to lay the vocal minority angle to bed - it's not helpful, as all our opinions are as invalid as each others.  Sure, we want people to explain their views if we are going to give them any weight, but perhaps mbanners isnt the best example to choose given his otherwise thoughtful comments?

Cover - whats that all about then?  The least inviting cover in ages.

Dredd/Aliens: Hmmm - the first episode to hit a bum note with me I'm afraid.  Last weeks evil cackling villain was a step in the wrong direction, but the cliches come thick and fast this week - Dredd allowing the Verminators to get involved seems uncharacteristic, while the idea that you can just blast your way into the Hall of Justice is an uber-dull and unlikely cliche. The Judges arent going to have thought of a threat like that, and guarded against it? - You can just wander under the Grand Hall? Hmmmm.

Bec & Kawl: For me, comedy arises out of the circumstances people find themselves in, not from putting people into circumstances designed to feed the joke/quote engine that this runs on.  On the strength of the Scrap, I'm looking forward to more stuff from Si, but not more of this - It's too "nudge, nudge, wink wink - see what I did there" if that makes any sense.

VCs: The art is a serious problem this time round, especially the clash between computer and cartoon art. Still, the story is the best thing in the prog this week - Dan Abnett seems to be a firm believer in these "nothing much happens" strips, which can be a bit hit and miss - this one helps build up a bit of atmosphere and involve you in the crews lives a little more - good stuff.

Telguuth: Good God.  The resolution of this story is the lamest thing I've seen in 2000 for a while - Has anyone thought this through? Is it at all possible to imagine you could whip out a piece of charcoal and save the day - by the time you'd made a few marks you would be zombie meat... it's like a child's logic almost - "just hang on while I finish this picture off..." - BAH.

Atavar is completely uninvolving - giant ship kills things, giant ship might be killed - not promising, but we'll see.

Overall, a disappointing prog after the recent fun of Dante and Caballistics - cant wait for 1331.

Its a first person shooter, so we wont see Dredd in the game as we play, just what he sees - The Dredd doesnt look quite so bad here, but the painted on badge makes it look like hes wearing Dredd Pyjamas - worth a few polygons to make the badge a 3D object surely?

The type of people who use this board obviously have a different approach to using computers and message boards, expressing their opinion and presumably hold more strongly held feelings about these opinions in order to want to express them.   Whether that means they hold opinions that are at odds with the theoretical ?general readership? is where I think we have to be very careful.

I sometimes detect a sense that because message boarders are ?different? they can?t be trusted as a guide to what is liked and disliked ? that their judgment is clouded through a haze of obsessional over-pickyness. However, I think we can only safely say that we just don?t know if boarders reflect the majority view or not.  Here?s an argument though ? 5000(?) people view the board and many registered users must read posts and don?t post ? presumably if they held strong opinions to the contrary of the board hive mind, you?d think some might feel the need to put the other case?

But this I think leads us to the main point.  There?s very little by the way of consensus of opinion amongst the unwelcoming fanatics you find on here.  Bison and S***o are probably the only two issues that have united the board (and even S***o had a few early supporters:)).  Look at the retro summer.  You might expect all us obsessives to be raving over the strips, but look at the way that divided the boarders.

If anything, you might want to argue that boarders are more mixed than the general readership -  there?s a lot of new readers ? certainly less ?been reading constantly since Prog 1?ers than surveys would have you suggest (?90%?!! They?re all liars!!!*?).  I think PVS suggestion is only that until we know any different, it?s pointless trying to categorise boarders and non-boarders views ? hell, it would be difficult enough categorising boarders views coherently, without trying to second guess what the silent majority think.
