Another point - Just because another auction site (that boasts about how much it sells things for) is also overpriced doesnt make Ebay prices any less valid.  I got a good as new prog 2 for ?40 at the Memorabilia fair in Brum only a few months back (replacing my tatty one Ive had for years).  I've also seen a set of biotronic stickers for ?20 recently - in fact, they were in a sellers stock for a number of marts before they sold - dont trust the internet as a gide for prices - in fact, dont trust the internet fullstop.

Good luck in your noble crusade - Of course, by asking more people to join in the collecting rush you are not only giving them great advice on a sound investment, but also pushing up demand and therefore prices - genius!

"Say those people have all bought a copy at ?250, they are all satisfied. Then someone puts up another one for the same price. Does past price mean they can expect the same money? Nope because it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. This unlucky seller might find out it's worth a lot less."

Exactly Opaque - Ebay maximises prices by pitting the two highest bidders against each other - no one else is willing to pay the price, or they would have won.  There is definitely a fairly small and finite market for this stuff - unless of course you count the people forever buying multiple copies at prices that even an hardened ebayer would think twice about.  The reason the comic is less available is not cos its getting rarer, its because people are storing more copies than they need to enjoy the thing, thus (and heres the word) artificially boosting the rarity of it.

Of course if the film was a mega success and a whole bunch of new fans came along, then maybe these progs would be rare.  As it is, there are more than enough prog 2s to go round - which reminds me - I've lost your email Oddboy - contact me again with yer address and I'll send the prog to you asap

I sort of get the impression that Pat might see "The Horned God" as a "year Zero" for Slaine, and anything before that as fair game for riffing on...

Not sure why I get this feeling - mebbe his annoyance at Slaine reverting back to B&W for The Robin Hood story, as mentioned in TPO.

My take on voting is this

If a story is so-so it gets a five.  Usually its something I dont particularly enjoy, but I can see its not actually bad and others might enjoy it.  The scale slides down from there to a 4 (dull or just a bit less than I'd expect in terms of art and/or quality of storytelling) to a 1 (really obviously against all thrill power - what was Tharg thinking?)

6 or 7 are stories I enjoy, but perhaps dont engage me to the point I'm really gripped (or are let down by the art or some other niggling detail), while 8 is a really solid, enjoyable, all-round well crafted thrill.  9 and 10 is for the true classics.

You have to be a registered member - its a bit weird that only a small handful of people bother to vote on the older progs - if only 20 0r 30 out of the thousands (?) of registered users would go back and use their vote, we'd have much more representative top 10s  - Last time I tried to drum up some support for voting, it didnt have much of an impact.  Though that said, it was over a year ago, and  there are a lot of new faces... mebbe post up a link to a prog a day for the next week and see if there are any takers?

I've just voted for all the progs between 700 and 750 and was surprised by a number of things:

- all those Cliff Robinson stock Dredd covers

- the whimsical 'cute' covers

- the people standing around not doing much covers

- the close ups of gun wielding characters

Even the well executed covers dont seem to have much in the way of 'iconic' about them.

Ah - certainly looks like Colins designs - probably his pencils and PAul Marshals inks/colours then.

James - click on publications, then 2000ad, then find the box where you can put in a prog number to go to the relevant prog - use the drop down menus to vote - you can vote on stories as well as covers.
