By 'Swan Children', I presume you mean the bardic tale of 'The Children Of Lir', and the reason Pat would've gotten shirty about not crediting the original source material is because it's one of the most famous folk tales in Irish mythology.  I actually remember being deeply disappointed by that story, as I felt it was an incredibly lazy shoehorning of the source material into Slaine continuity, but probably wouldn't have been half as miffed if the original was credited in some way, as I was well aware of the parralels between much of Slaine and the stories surrounding Cuchullan and (historical) Ulster's 'Red Branch', and this didn't especially bother me.
I'm not the letter-writing type, but if Pat got flak from people as po'd as I was purely because he was being accused of acute plagurism/lazy writing, I don't blame him for taking issue with the original source not being credited.

There's a series of mineral-water ads that also rip off old bardic tales to empathise how 'pure' their water is, and I suspect that I'm not the only one who avoided their products as a consequence of their whoring their wares by strip-mining what little heritage the Irish have left that doesn't entail us shooting each other's knees off.

Don't be daft, Usher.  That would MAKE money.  Why would Rebellion want to do that?
A much better idea is to get some token pittance from an American publisher so they can ransack tooth's impressive back-catalogue, while Rebellion are left with Invasion and Mach-1 reprints to try to eke out a meagre sum from the curious British comic-buying public.
If the management types were suddenly struck with an almighty head-stagger, they might even try to reprint guff like Finn, but drop the 2000ad logo (sorry), so it gives the impression that every so often, a fully-painted boys-own adventure mag comes out with macho blokes, alien monsters, superpowers and big-tittied women on every page.  And kids wouldn't want to buy something like THAT, would they?

I thought he came off a bit stiff, but mostly he's pretty much as I figured he would be.  Can't blame him for defending his collaborators and his stories, though.  He'd be a pretty poor writer if he didn't have some concept of who he was writing for, which is what I think he was saying with the whole 'celtic' Slaine fans thing.

As for Dave Bishop, well... he does have to shoulder the blame for his failures as well as his successes as editor.  The Secret Commonwealth thing was probably just another bump in the road, and I'll wait till I've seen some comprehensive overview of his tenure as Tharg before I level any criticisms in that direction.
(although the Men In Black thing was stupid, as was that whole period where every issue had a 'what happened last issue' panel/page before most/all of the stories)

My god!  He actually used the words "some of my best friends are gay lesbians"!

Top stuff, Will.  Keep it coming.

And am I the only one sensing some sort of sublimated homosexual attraction between Mills and Bishop?  It would explain some things, you know.

I used to think my liking for tuna and cheese sandwiches was pretty disgusting, and so did everyone else.  Now it's bloody everywhere.
Any type of fruit (except tomatoes, obviously) on a pizza is JUST WRONG.

In some freakish alternate universe where I'm not a bear, though, I used to have a penchant for brown sauce and honey sandwiches.

Eyyy.  Da Leather.

Did they ever get back to 1956 Milwaukee?  I assume so, what with Richie C going on to direct Bacdraft and Apollo 13.

Although now I come to think of it, I might have done the same thing.  Did there used to be some cartoon show with the Fonz travelling through time?
