By 'Swan Children', I presume you mean the bardic tale of 'The Children Of Lir', and the reason Pat would've gotten shirty about not crediting the original source material is because it's one of the most famous folk tales in Irish mythology. I actually remember being deeply disappointed by that story, as I felt it was an incredibly lazy shoehorning of the source material into Slaine continuity, but probably wouldn't have been half as miffed if the original was credited in some way, as I was well aware of the parralels between much of Slaine and the stories surrounding Cuchullan and (historical) Ulster's 'Red Branch', and this didn't especially bother me.
I'm not the letter-writing type, but if Pat got flak from people as po'd as I was purely because he was being accused of acute plagurism/lazy writing, I don't blame him for taking issue with the original source not being credited.
There's a series of mineral-water ads that also rip off old bardic tales to empathise how 'pure' their water is, and I suspect that I'm not the only one who avoided their products as a consequence of their whoring their wares by strip-mining what little heritage the Irish have left that doesn't entail us shooting each other's knees off.
