Off Topic / Wot I did with my bank holiday weekend...
02 September, 2002, 06:38:38 PM
This pic was taken at Eye Show, close to where Will Logan lives.

I'm the one on the right hand side wielding a sword, and holding my musket vertical as a shield.

This weekend I was at Dudley Castle for a skirmish and managed to acquit myself quite well against a mediaeval in armour with a longsword and buckler.

Website and Forum / Voting delays
19 August, 2002, 05:57:26 PM
Please be patient when voting on stories which already have a large number of votes. I've changed the way votes are stored, and the first time anyone votes on an unconverted story the window does the conversion as well as register the vote.

Cheers,

Website and Forum / Mega City Swap Shop
11 August, 2002, 03:52:09 AM
I've just created a new page for the site.

Currently is allows registered users to add their lists of CCG cards and spugs, and match wants and spares with other lists.

I'll be added further categories soon (e.g. Citadel miniatures). Should be useful for HeroClix when they come out.

Anyone who was there at the time, please could you tell me where you were. Was the database chatroom full?

Off Topic / Gender role researcg
18 July, 2002, 07:53:28 PM
I've created a web page to help collect data for one of our students.

If you have 10 minutes or so to spare, please could you have a go at it.

If you do, please could you answer "2000ad" to the question "How did you find this page?". If you could pass it on that would be great too.

If the researcher manages to find anything interesting about the attitudes of 2000ad readers compared with other groups, I'll post her findings here.

Cheers,

Classifieds / Pitchshifter/Jock charity art auction
18 July, 2002, 06:10:38 PM
Pitchshifter have signed Jock's original artwork page from Prog 1280 (in which they appear alongside Judge Dredd, Judge Anderson and Lenny Zero). The
page ends this evening on eBay.

All proceeds will go to Amnesty International. The lot includes a signed copy of the prog, and will hopefully also include a copy of the script for the page signed by Andy Diggle.

Bidding currently stands at ?72. If the winning bid is placed at least 1 hour before the auction end, the winner will also receive a limited edition promo (unnumbered) copy of the CD single Eight Days.

Website and Forum / IRC Chat Room

I've just added the code so that an approximation of the number of people in the IRC chat room appears next to the link.

Would people prefer it if it was black on white instead of white on black?

I've managed to streamline the way votes are displayed so, I think we can probably have the message board back now.

The server move is still on the cards. We're just waiting for it to be prepared.

Help! / Need external SCSI cable/adaptor/terminator
06 July, 2002, 12:43:00 AM
Would you believe, this is vaguely on topic.

A few weeks ago my home scanner broke. I've bought a replacement (an Agfa SnapScan 600 second hand on Yahoo auctions), but it didn't come with a cable (or SCSI card). I therefore still can't scan (stuff for the website) at home.

I think that what I need is a cable with a 50-pin HD male plug at one end and a 50-pin centronics male at the other (though I might be able to use a 25 pin D male instead at that end). I also need at centronics in-line terminator, but that's less important 'cos I've seen them on eBay for a couple of quid.

Does anyone have any old SCSI stuff lying around they can check for me.

I do have a 68-pin HD male to 50-pin centronics male cable, so another option would be a 68-pin HD female to 50-pin HD male convertor.

I can probably get the correct cable through eBay, but it would almost certainly be from a US seller so would take a while to arrive.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,

Website and Forum / Icons and Profile pages
05 July, 2002, 03:58:29 PM
If you have a profile page (in either the input zone, or the droid zone) and would like a 90x90 version of your icon to appear on your page, please email me a 90x90 jpg.

This will not be done by default, since the profile pages use people's real names, so anyone who want's to keep their username and real name separate would probably not want their icon to appear in both places.

Website and Forum / Graphic novel poll
04 July, 2002, 12:38:19 AM
I email Jason about the concept of original graphic novels featuring 2000AD characters. His reply was that the numbers just wouldn't add up with the current level of sales. A book would need to sell 20 or 30 thousand copies to make it worthwhile commissioning 48 pages of original art and script.

He did like my other idea though, which is kind of a half-way house. Watch this space.

News / Judge Dredd on BBC Choice
22 June, 2002, 02:51:42 PM

News / SFX Event Guest list
20 June, 2002, 07:17:28 PM
2000 AD Guests at SFX Event Blackpool - 21-23 June 2002

Matt Smith - Matt has been the editor of 2000 AD since December 2001, and has been busy commissioning mind-blowing new strips for the Galaxy's Greatest Comic when not feeding Tharg polystyrene cups. Matt is in the frontline of British comics, searching his way through piles of submissions to find writers and artists to create new stories for the magazine that gave the world Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Dave Gibbons and Simon Bisley, among many others.

David Bishop - David has been editor of both the Megazine (twice!) and 2000 AD, and has been involved in all parts of the publishing process including writing and lettering stories. There's very little about  2000 AD and British comics David doesn't know, and that knowledge is currently being shared every month in the Megazine in the enlightening and somewhat scurrilous History of 2000 AD. David has recently scripted two Judge Dredd audiobooks, and he has a monthly column in Comics International.

John Smith - One of 2000 AD's most prolific writers, John Smith has worked on a range of 2000 AD strips, notably the legendary Rogue Trooper story Cinnabar as well as a large number of Dredd stories. John is responsible for creating the popular characters Devlin Waugh and Revere, and more recently was responsible for the lycanthropic Romeo & Juliet tale A Love Like Blood.

Jock - Jock is a relatively recent addition to the 2000 AD pool of artists, but his fresh, gritty style has already garnered him a bunch of award nominations. Most well known for his work on the Megazine strip Lenny Zero (written by ex-2000 AD editor Andy Diggle), Jock has also drawn a number of Judge Dredd stories and is responsible for some of the most stunning 2000 AD covers of recent times. Jock's work can currently be seen gracing the final Tor Cyan story in 2000 AD.

Frazer Irving - The irrepressible Frazer Irving has managed (with some eldritch time-warping device of his own creation) to win the National Comics Award for best newcomer two years running, and his distinctive art style has raised a great deal of interest on both sides of the Atlantic. Frazer's most recent work includes a searing Judge Death strip for 2000 AD, and he has also been responsible for art duties on highly praised strips such as Necronauts and Storming Heaven, as well as the forthcoming Dark Horse series, Fort.

Mike Collins - The multi-talented Mike Collins has both written and drawn for 2000 AD over his time working for the magazine. Mike has been responsible for art duties on a number of legendary 2000 AD characters, including Judge Dredd, Slaine and Rogue Trooper, as well as many episodes of the well-known Daily Star Dredd strips. Mike has also written a number of Future Shocks for 2000 AD.

Carl Critchlow - Carl has been responsible for a variety of 2000 AD strips, including lengthy runs on Flesh and Nemesis The Warlock, as well as a Mean Machine series for the Megazine and the Batman/Dredd crossover The Ultimate Riddle. Carl is also responsible for unleashing on the world the long-running White Dwarf series Thrud The Barbarian (now starring in his own comic).

Peter Doherty - Peter Doherty has worked exclusively on Dredd- related material for 2000 AD, with 'Justice One' representing his longest individual run on the Judge, although he also drew the Judge Death miniseries 'Boyhood of a Superfiend' and contributed to the epic 'Judgement Day'. His US work includes Grendel Tales.

Website and Forum / Poll Images
15 June, 2002, 05:28:46 AM
I've just added an image function to the poll creator. However, images can only be added by me at the moment, so if you want one to appear inbetween your question and answer, email it to me first.

In the meantime, please don't create any polls for the next few days...at least until the Lifeboat poll has reached 50 votes.
