Classifieds / Durham Red artwork for sale
18 May, 2004, 05:59:03 AM
I've just taken some quick photos (sorry about the flash glare) from a European reprint of Durham Red Hunters and asked Mark to price up the pages I chose.

Is anyone interested in buying any of these pages? If you have a different page you'd like me to ask Mark about, let me know.

Image 10 (shown below) is priced the same as the single pages because the view screens have stats on them rather than original artwork.

Cheers,

Wake

How about giving the player a choice of 5 levels and the final score is something like (number of cards taken by Tharg + 1) x (6 - level)

Therefore you could get a score of 4 from (3+1)x(6- level 5) or (1+1)x(6- level 4) or (0+1)x(6- level 2)

The best possible score would be 1 = winning with no losses at level 5. Someone playing at the easiest level (1) couldn't get a better score than 5.

If Tharg has been made more intelligent, perhaps the high score table should be reset now.

I've done some more research and found that Alec (the son) started getting frustrated with Klingon at age about 3 and a half, because it's vocabulary was too small and so the father stopped his experiment. Ironically, an increased vocabulary was release a couple of years later.

Alec is now 10 and seemingly none the worse for his early linguistic experiences.

On a similar topic, a pidgin language is a simplistic creation which allows adults of two diffent native tongues to communicate, but if a pidgin gets taught to children as a primary laguage, the language evolves into a creole which contains grammar, etc. necessary for communication but not built into the original pidgin.

I believe there are more Klingon speakers than Esperanto.

It shouldn't matter if the secondary language isn't spoken in any particular foreign country, or if the child decides never to speak Klingon again.

If only the father spoke to the child in Klingon, then the child will have received more than enough normal input to be proficient in English. An Enlgish-Klingon bilingual child may be at a slight advantage if he chooses to learn an additional language later in life.

Isn't that child abuse..?

IIRC, children in bi-lingual families do start speaking slightly later than mono-lingual ones, but there are no long term ill effects. The fact that in this case one of the languages is Klingon shouldn't have much additional impact.

It could even be done just using the News or Links categories on this message board if there wasn't enough to make a front page press release worthwhile.

I seem to be stuck in a prog time delay too. I'm getting my weekly on the following Monday, and yet the Extreme Edition came this morning.

I've added the credit to Maniac for Hire, which I was investigating for a different reason - trying to work out who the artist was for a Future Shock in prog 237

Not just you. I've edited Dudley's post to stop it pushing the table out of whack.
