You don't have to take it seriously to find it unfunny.

Big Dave probably would have shone in Viz, but I expect somewhat more from my Thrills. The Balls Brothers were far better and showed that a comedy series could work.

Website and Forum / Re: The answer Wake is..........
03 April, 2002, 04:14:35 PM
I think you misunderstand me.

Everyone sees the same time on this website, regardless of where they are.

If I hadn't done anything about it, all the posts would be EST (or something) but I added an offset so that people in the UK see the correct time. However, if Dayling Saving and BST don't happen at the same time the site time will be out by an hour for a few weeks per year, unless I manually do something about it.

There's no point making the change now, since I'll have to change it again on the 7th and by the time we go back to GMT, I'm hoping the server will be in the UK so I won't have to use an offset at all (and hopefully the site will run a bit faster too)

Before I do that, when does America change to Daylight Saving Time? The web server  is in America and I use an offset for the message board, so if I change the post times now I may have to change them again in a week.

General / Re: Prog 1208 - wha' happened?.......
30 March, 2002, 02:08:35 AM
Rebellion took over 2000AD from prog 1200, so they do have it in their digital archive.

I don't know why it's so rare, but I do know there isn't a pile of copies still in the Rebellion offices.

General / Re: Message board suggestions........

I get all messages delivered by email, so I'm not a good example. Someone else will have to reply to show they have read it.

I'll think about a compact version of the index, but don't hold your breath. I may not have time to work on it for a while.

Would it help any if the message list you get at the bottom of a message was in date order, rather than threaded?

Does anyone actually like seeing the messages threaded on the main index?

General / Message board suggestions
28 March, 2002, 08:46:27 PM
The problem with only showing one title (either the first or the most recent) in the main index is that you can't tell whether the thread has changed tack, or who's posting. I'd need more of a consensus before changing this.

Also, it means follow up posts can clarify what the thread is about.

The reason I don't currently let people reply in the view thread page is because it would be more complicated to show which message they are replying to exactly.

Things I'm currently thing about for this board are:

Killfiles...ignore members of your choice from the main index and the view thread (but you can still click on their posts in the message thread displayed when viewing another person's message)

Emailed replies...so you get an email if someone replies directly to your post. This would probably have to be an option and you wouldn't receive emails from people in your killfile.

Message board junkies...give people the ability to turn this off as well as on.

If there's something else that people want and can agree on, I'll try and do it, but please phrase your suggestions in terms of what changes would need to be made to the existing format, rather than ask me to make it like some other board.

General / Re: How about a FAQ?
28 March, 2002, 08:59:59 PM
There's too different aspects to this.

Character info should be available in the character profiles, rather than in a dedicated FAQ.

However, I am planning to set up an FAQ in the About 2000AD zone, once I get round to writing some questions and answers and/or getting the old alt.comics.2000ad FAQ off Nessy.

Suggestions / PDF test case
28 March, 2002, 05:12:08 PM
I've just send an email to the powers that be asking for them to consider offering prog 1208 in pdf form as a test case.

Prog 1208 is missing from many collections because of distribution problems with this issue.

Rebellion already has progs 1200+ in digital format, so in theory pdfs could work for these in conjunction with the digital archive books for the early progs.

But in the first instance I'd just like to use prog 1208 as a test case.

Prog / Re: logic takes the long walk!...

It didn't make sense to me either. Shame...I was looking forward to something a little better after the first episode.

Prog / Telguuth art + plot holes
28 March, 2002, 05:15:06 AM
Page 3 "Why, promise no harm to me..."
Page 5 "We promised not to eat you"

Although I didn't actually hate the artwork, it just didn't feel like 2000AD.

I read the story thinking, wouldn't it be good it 2000AD had a decent fantasy strip. Telguuth could have been it, but this was even worse than usual.

I think I gave it 2/10 on the Thrillometer.

My subs copy came this morning, so it'll be on the site in the next few hours.

General / Post deletion
27 March, 2002, 09:34:17 PM
I could write something so you can delete your own posts, but the threading would go haywire if anyone had already replied to you, unless your post was left as an empty shell...which means everyone would know that you had deleted something.

I don't think it's a worthwhile improvement.

General / No
27 March, 2002, 06:21:31 PM
Being the person who would have to code such a button, I'd have to vote no too.

What I may do eventually is create a killfile option, so that each user can set their registration to ignore posts from, say, up to 3 other usernames.

I'd agree with Robo-Hunter by Wagner/Gibson

How about:

Judge Dredd by Wagner/Bolland
Judge Dredd by Wagner/Ezquerra (in black and white)
Judge Anderson by Grant/Walker
Slaine by Mills/Fabry
Rogue Trooper by Rennie/Cam Kennedy
Dan Dare by Dave Gibbons (script AND art)
(to coincide hopefully with the network release of the new animated series which is currently showing in Latin America!)

plus a prologue for a new thrill.
