I went to Boston for a week covering Millenium eve and South Africa for a wedding. I should get my youngest brother to do this.

Help! / Re: Bisley pin-up

Lovely job. Thanks to both of you.

While trawling the Internet I did find a small version of that image as a foreign language cover.

Cheers,

Wake

Help! / Bisley pin-up
25 May, 2007, 03:53:45 PM
Can anyone identify this pin-up?

Probably Bisley
Probably a back cover

Slaine standing in the middle of a crowd wearing the horned helmet and holding a great sword and spear.

Possibly standing on a cauldron.

Thanks in advance.

I won this for £60. I would have gone to about £250 on the Dante Burns if I'd felt a bit more flush. I think that the Alan Davis and Dave Gibbons pages went for about £150 each, and the rest was fairly cheap.

What happens is that if the thumbs-up appears in the foreground but you don't notice it and click back on the main page you are looking at without closing it then that moves the thumbs-up to the background and further clicks don't bring it back to the foreground.

The reason it's done that way is so that if you reload the page you get to after you submit a message or vote, etc. it doesn't send it again. I know it's a little confusing for newcomers, but you'll get used to it.

I thought I might be able to delete the excess threads before anyone could reply or start a new thread. I was only half right.

All sorted now I think.

I certainly don't expect to be producing scaled helmets, though it's always possible that First4Figures might. They were suggested to me before but if I was making them I'd either have to gamble that I could sell a lot (as I did with the Dredd badge) or price them high to cover the costs of being handmade and I doubt I'd get many buyers for a minature helmet if it still cost £60-£100.

I did take a couple of photos of my friend looking slightly to the left or right but none side on. I didn't want to delay our Cthulhu game too long.

The vision in this helmet is a lot better than I remember of the one I wore at DreddCon:1. You don't notice the nosepiece much and while I'm not saying I think helmets should be designed this way, I think that there probably would be enough vision for an actor to cope.

How does the tint work on the visor, Wake? Is it a kind of film that is stuck on to the clear bit beneath?

Correct and in principle a mirrored bit could work but I think it would be overly complicated, disrupt vision and not serve an imaginable function. Of course there's nothing to spot helmet buyers experimenting with this themselves.

My plan for the helmet badge is to have it 4mm thick for the bars and 2mm thick at the grooves, with the same sandblasted effect in the grooves as on the Dredd badge. Obviously the paper mock-up doesn't show this.

Perhaps if there ever is another Dredd film, the Termight Replicas products will be used as a starting point.

I don't think the lightning flashes can be done in a way that doesn't look naff. One way I thought of doing them would be to have gaps in the tinted areas, but that would mean you would be able to see the wearer's eyes.

I have already checked that the bottom edge of the visor can be higher. I'm not sure if it can also be horizontal, but I'll ask.
