Does anyone else find trolls tedious?

Tales of dreams are surreal and fun.

Ok, two odd dream things:

The first was two nights ago. Ian Beale from Eastenders bought the pet shop in my village and filled it with sweets and magazines, but stuck all his stock to the walls with glue, making it impossible to remove. I tried to buy a magazine, but couldn't. I tried to complain to Ian but he had broken his back and I didn't want to add to his problems.

I wandered down the street to the other newsagents which had been converted into a MASSIVE comic shop, but I wasn't allowed in. I managed to get what I wanted though, and ran off with some friend.

There was a long, epic section across some fields, then we finally stopped running around and being odd. I was told that I had to choose one of the comics that I'd got, and my decision was final. I picked a blue one, and it turned into a blue egg. I cracked it open and it was black and rooten. Someone told me that I had to become Death, and I basically found I was able to kill people by thinking about it.

However, I had to kill a set number of people over the next few hours, so I tried to find a crowd. I ran through the fields, eventually going so fast I was flying. The landscape changed and I was in a tropical paradise. Below me was a huge Roman army. I killed a lot of them, and fought my way through a tropical river to a waterfall at the end. On either side of the waterfall top, the cliffs rose, making it like a large doorway. There was a portal of some kind floating there, so close to the edges that if you went off the cliff you would fall through for certain.
I could see through the portal (it was like a window) and there were fields, and a wooden structure that looked like a zoo enclosure crossedwith a playground. On the left of that were mountains, stretching up. They looked really REALLY strange, though I don't know why.

On the right of the structure was a weird little village, the type you'd expect to find in a fantasy RPG with paving stones, and odd little houses, and strange folk going about their business as small dots in the distance.
On the horizon, there was a beach, then the sea. It was really sunny and beautiful.

Julius Caesar (the Asterix one in my dream) was floating on the water and he told me that I had to go through, but I didn't want to. I wanted to scream and cry, but eventually decided it was for the best, because I KNEW that when I went through I wouldn't be death anymore. I went through and fell right down, landing in the enclosure I saw. I couldn't find a way out, and I was attacked by two huge gorillas. I slipped past them and looked over the fields towards the mountains. There were dinosaurs there, but I was too afraid to go that way, so I headed towards the village.

At this point I woke up, and could remember way more than that. I wrote down what I could, but it was fading. I can't believe I woke up, even in the dream I was happy. Wanted to keep going!!

The other is about today. I went to Stoke-On-Trent, and as we drove along a road overlooking the city, I realised that it was IDENTICAL to a city in another vivid dream (again, one I was compelled to write down) about a year ago. Even before I saw things I knew they'd be there. In some areas I could navigate and tell my dad what buildings were coming perfectly. I have NEVER been there before. The only difference was in my dream the city was meant to be in America. Apart from that... Creepy.

General / Prog Sizes
06 April, 2004, 08:36:50 AM
I've been a bit odd recently, and started a large number of on-topic threads compared to off topic (mainly to keep good folk like Logan here, and to make sure they don't hate me!!)

This is no different. I quote from 2000ad Review:

Although it?s only been three months since the beginning of 2004, there have already been changes aplenty at the Galaxy's Greatest Comic. The first of these was the change in the size of the comic, although considering the number of times this has happened over the years perhaps people shouldn?t have been all that surprised. I have to say that, for myself, I was always slightly unnerved when I returned to the pages of 2000AD to find that it was now more approximate to the size of an American comic book. Perhaps it will only appeal to fans of a certain age, but I always liked the size and shape of 2000AD in the eighties, and I always thought British comics seemed better with their own style rather than trying to ape the American style of production. It also seems, to me at least, that the change in canvas sizes gives the artists involved more room to experiment and fit in their actual work. Alongside the size of the comic, the artists and writers credit boxes changed as well. Just as soon as you?ve gotten used to something?Ah well, I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough.

Well, how do you fine folk feel about the size of the prog. I was never TOO bothered, but if I'm honest I prefer the more 'American' size. It just fits in my hands easier, and feels more like a comic for me. Ok, ok, and the 80s style don't fit in my bloody scanner...

Thoughts?

I think someone mentioned this at some point: Gordon Rennie possibly. There are hundreds of different types of divisions in the Justice Department, but few are story worthy. I admit, while it is interesting to think about, it would be hard to construct a story around all this.

There's a lot of potential here.

TPS - I always assumed that the Judges dealt with all that. They are the ruling body after all. I'm curious about the exports now...

Doctor seeking recognition and fame seeks high profile 'bad guy' with which to test revolutionary 'new treatment' that modifies violent impulses at the onset.

That was the whole point of Burgess' book and the whole point of Wagners story.

No, that was the plot. The point was the loss of freedom, and questioning whether freedom should be sacrificed etc. Plus Alex didn't get married... :-P

I don't think Mean is a straight 'Clockwork' lift, though there are similarities. It's the same principle though. And similar to when they tried hypnotherapy on him etc.

And despite my Black Siddah bashing, the last two pages were ok. It doesn't make up for the rest though.

Ok, finally had a chance to finish it:

Mean Machine - First things first: I think MM has been done to death. He should be released and left to rn around in the Cursed Earth, brought back every few years or so for a minor appearance because he is STILL quite fun. But I'm not sure about another strip. Although it's enjoyable, I expect it'll go the same way as... well, all the other MM strips. No, I exagerate, but we have seen this before: Mean is cured, Mean is released/trusted, Mean isn't actually cured, goes up to 4 on some poor sucker, then Dredd or somebody catches him. This is looking like following a similar pattern, with the added spice of Mean's marriage. Though that isn't the first time there's been a Mean marriage thing. Hm, like Young Middenface, good enough, but the ideas strike me as unoriginal.

Whatever Happened To... Conrad Conn - For it's flaws, I enjoyed this. It was predictable enough, but the story really made me smile at times, and feel a bit sad for the poor guy at others. The writing was spot on, and it was really fun. The flaws I mentioned are mainly courtesy of the artwork. Really not my thing. It might have been improved in colour, but in B+W it didn't work for me I'm afraid. Some highlights, but mostly not as good as I'd hope.

Black Siddha - I've been reading 2000AD for around a year now. In that time, I've read a LOT of progs, both past and present. This is the first time I've switched off while reading one. It completely failed to grab me, made me feel sleepy, and had a grand total of 1 moment I'd consider decent. It's just not my bag baby. Maybe others will enjoy it, but for me it just didn't work, on any level really. Savage had better be drokkin good...

Charley's War - Ok, it's good. I enjoyed this, but I can't help feeling that it's just the same old thing. I GET IT!! ENOUGH!! Eesh. I do enjoy it though, it's just I find it hard to summon the strength to plough through ANOTHER episode, just to eventually go 'Huh, that was awfully similar to last week'. War is bad. Bad things happen. I get it. I knew it before I read this strip to be perfectly frank. And this often coats reality with a certain sweetness that's a bit cliched. In reality, Ginger at al would have been killed. Sorry, but they would have been. Maybe it's time the reprints changed...?

Hell Trekkers - For some obscure reason, I've read one episode of this, and it was enough to make me curious... I have to say I really enjoyed this (would be glad to see it replace CW and have Dredd alongside it) aand I'm looking forward to more. What I read was nice and harsh, with cool tragic parts, while being a lot of fun. I hope it's mostly like this. Plus, this part has an abundance of dinosaurs. This makes anything brilliant.

Grennie's Column - Yet another chuckle-filled read. I look forward to this each month, because I know I'm going to laugh out loud at least once. But Gordon - mentioning Johnny and Wulf as examples AGAIN? Surely you've learnt by now!!

Meg Dredd - Well, thanks to Bolt-01 I've already read this! But it is nice to have it in glorious colour, and I hope it's a monthly thing. They aren't utterly mindblowing, but they're nice light entertainment.

Hm, I've said more than I expected....

More food I need. So long

Mine has two covers. Here's my thought Pt 1:

Dreddlines:
Gerald Bostock's letter is all the points already discussed, and I hope it doesn't al lstart again. Third or fourth time I've read you say that Cookie had a Whizzer and Chips style look to it. It still doesn't stand up as a point to me. It's such a critical argument, that's what gets me. Yes, I'd like a more adult Dredd story, similar to The Killing Joke or something, but at the same time I LOVED the Cookie story. The two things aren't mutually exclusive Gerald, come on.
Floyd - Woo! And is Matt the Matt I hink it is? Woo! Well I have to say, my final thoughts on the Satanus fiasco are that if it WAS a warning shot to other writers, I don't think it should have been in the comic. I don't want to read stories where the sole purpose is for the writers to snipe at each other. GRR Mr Mills. Now make Savage GOOD. No messing around.

Dredd - YEAH! WOO! Nice. Enjoyed this a lot, and pretty great artwork too. It could develop well, and I'd love it if it tied in with the Dredd in the prog, but I know it won't. Still, looking forward to next week.

Young Middenface - Great stuff! Though it's yet ANOTHER 'village with a secret' thing. Although I love this, creepy villages were perfected in 'In The Mouth Of Madness' so maybe fresh ideas would be a plus?

I shall return...

Yes, true - I didn't mean to seem like I was blaming Krusty!! I was just as guilty.

I just meant when he went a bit OTT over a couple of days folk mentioned it was bothering them and overall off-topic posts have decresed because people are more aware of that and not wanting to fall into that trap.

Sorry Krusty!

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to filter what I see on the board?

I know we can choose the limit of days but can I get rid of the (increasing) number of Off-Topic posts?

I'm not sure yet whether I want to do this - some off-topic posts are still SF and Fantasy film and comic related (just not 2000AD) and I'd still be interested in these whereas some other off-topic stuff (What size shoes do you wear?) really belongs in the bin.

I think it's DEcreasing now... Krusty went a little loco a while back but since he stopped it's mostly gone now.
