General / Single character comics
30 October, 2005, 09:39:01 PM
Why don't they make comics any more, just with one character? The way they used to do with Quality Comics? I used to love going down the newsagent and picking up the latest Dredd or Strontium Dog title without having to wade through crap I have no interest in.
I subscribed to the Megazine for over a year (I had a letter printed, some of you might recall me as a moaning twat), but I cancelled it as although I loved the Dredd stories I don't give a damn about Jack Point or the "Bendatti vendetta" or whatever it's called.
Give me a comic with JUST Dredd/Slaine/Strontium Dog stories, even reprints, and I'll buy them all the time.

General / Latest Megazine

Of the seven stories in Meg 220 how many are Judge Dredd stories? None. "Damned Ranger" is about the Chief Dounrey, with Dredd there as a a bit part player.
Does anyone else feel a little cheated? The thing is called "Judge Dredd Megazine" yet he only appears (briefly) in ONE story? Yes, more moaning from me - I haven't been happy with the Megazine during my subscription and I won't renew it so I don't expect to be moaning about it much more.

PS That cover. What is that all about?

Is this character still around these days, or has he been killed off? He was a favourite of mine.

General / You think I'm a moaning tit

Well I am. But look at it this way - you all love 2000AD and the Meg, that's why you post here. Basically, you're happy, you buy the mags, Rebellion don't have to try that much to keep you paying them money.
Okay, fine.
Now for the Meg and 2000AD to grow they have to attract NEW readers and OLD readers who have stopped buying the mags for whatever reason. Like me.
So, as you see, my opinion is pretty important. Maybe Rebellion should do a poll of older readers to see what they think of recent Megs/Progs and find out what would make them buy the mags again. Isn't it time Dredd took his rightful place amongst the Batmen and X-Men of the world?
I personally want to be treated like an adult, with no Cookie monsters or "Buster" style artwork. I want heads caved in with pipes (like poor Robin, HA!), nudity (if it's integral to the plot) and maybe a sweary word, like "shit"? Too much to ask? Well, I'd also like some realistic artwork, just like the Anderson story this Meg gets - not the shit Cookie and Master Moves got. I could do better with a couple of crayons and a "How to draw Dennis the Menace" book FFS.
That's MY opinion, and Rebellion need such opinions to grow, so suck my boaby if you don't like it.

DC Comics version of Dredd? Is this Dredd by American writers and artists? Or just British reprints?

General / Why is 2000AD and the Meg so childish?
10 March, 2004, 02:45:59 AM
I hadn't read 2000AD since I was 14, 12 years ago so when I subscribed recently to the Megazine I assumed it would have moved on somewhat in those 12 years. Last months Meg was promising but this months is very disappointing. The Anderson story was good, with excellent artwork, but the rest wasn't up to much. The chess story was just childish, with comic-like art, as was the Cookie story. 2000AD and the Meg aren't moving with the times, they are aiming the stories apparently at children rather than adults. Batman started to change years ago and got darker and more realistic - Dredd seems to have gone the other way. Has there ever been a Dredd graphic novel ONLY for adults, i.e. with an age rating? Isn't it about time Rebellion started to use the characters to try and reach the ADULT comic fans who enjoy the more realistic stories?
Am I the only one who thinks this? Do people over 25 really still enjoy reading things like Cookie and Master Moves? Wouldn't you rather see something even a little more mature like Batman's "Killing Joke"? Couldn't they aim 2000AD at adults and the Meg at kids/everyone? I don't want to subscribe to a magazine which I can only enjoy half of the stories, while feeling frankly embarrassed to be reading something like Cookie with it's Whizzer and Chips style art.

General / Extreme 2000AD Invasion
10 March, 2004, 02:34:40 AM
I just bought this - mistakenly actually, I assumed it was Rogue Trooper from the cover. What a pile of crap - this is the worst story I've ever read - a lorry driver with no miltitary training taking on a whole army with just a shotgun and winning? He even meets up with John Lennon and gets a guitar that shoots bullets. Utter garbage. If this is the level of the Extreme editions I won't be buying any more (please don't tell me how old the story is - I know that, it's no excuse).

General / Helter Skelter - RUINED YA FECKERS!
06 March, 2004, 03:31:13 AM
I just got the Dredd graphic novel "Helter Skelter" and as I've never read the story before was looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, the crappy "background info" pages of the book ruined the story for me by telling me that Cal was back, so when the "mystery" Chief Judge appears I bloody knew exactly who it was! Cheers for ruining the feckin story ya bastages! Still, it was an excellent, though FAR too short story.

Cheers

General / Where's the Judge Child now?

He must still be out there somewhere surely? Has there been a story with him since the Judge Child Quest? If not, there must be one due surely?

General / Anderson's hair
22 February, 2004, 04:21:54 AM
I've just started getting the Megazine again, after a break of 12 years or so from 2000AD etc and I'm well pleased with this issue of the Meg. However, and this has probably been discussed before - what's the story with Anderson's hair?! Short, cropped, boyish black hair instead of the lush, blonde locks I remember? Why? Is it an attempt to make things more gritty (because everyone knows blondes don't exist in Real Life right?)?

General / Quality Comics
16 February, 2004, 04:50:33 AM
I used to love picking up "Quality Comics" from the newsagent with full, or part stories of Dredd, Strontium Dog etc, and there was also the 2000AD monthly which would have full stories collected in one cheap comic. Do they not make anything like this anymore and why not? You could pick up basically a graphic novel for a fraction of the cost, and got some excellent stories.

General / Darker Dredd stories
16 February, 2004, 12:07:02 AM
I stopped buying 2000AD about 13 years ago and I've just recently started buying some graphic novels again. I've got some of the "classic" stories like Apocalypse War and Necropolis but I'm looking for suggestions of more modern graphic novels I can get? I love the newer Batman stories which are gritty and a little more realistic/violent and I'd like to read some Dredd stories in this vein, so are there any?
I also love Slaine and Strontium Dog, in fact - should I just start buying 2000AD again?! Is it as ggod as it used to be with even lesser known tales like "Harry Twenty on the High Rock" being of a high standard?
