Books & Comics / Re: Waiting for the trade.........

yeah, the mechanismo that hamlyn published is incomplete anyway. In a moment of weakness I got a copy of Wilderlands off ebay, but it was pretty cheap.

The thing about some of those old volumes is they don't publish all the lead ins like you say. Necropolis is a prime example but also things like The Pit and Scorpion Dance/beyond the call of duty and doomsday miss out on having the Bad Frendz story which first set up Nero Narcos and a few one offs that led into doomsday. Would love to more complete editions from rebellion. Then again they have so much to consider.

I'm in a quandry. I've been getting the recent dredd collections (total war, brothers of the blood etc.) but I'm hankering for more. So do I get meself old copies of such gems as Doomsday, The Pit, Beyond the call of duty off of eBay or do I wait and see if rebellion will collect them (cos I do like the new format).

Whatcha think?

Quote: "(There?s a real howler in that terrible terrible movie where Fargo holds up a Judge?s badge and tells Dredd that he want it to stand for what it used to stand for ?freedom and democracy?. I once saw a screening of the movie with live commentary from John Wagner and (I think) the then editor of ?Tooth David Bishop. Wagner?s reaction to that comment was both hilarious and unrepeatable.)"

Now that commentary I'd really like to have heard. doubt its on the DVD mind you.

It was mentioned in the SFX article about Origins that it will show bad bob booth starting the atomic wars. I know this is a major piece of the history but I think it lends a bit of validity to booth being involved with the box

or dredd and rico aren't clones after all but fargo's real kids.

Ah i dunno, some fun finding out though. I was half thinking about giving up 2000ad.

Just when I thought that I was out they pull me back in

Now there's a deluge of great stuff. Dredd is unreal, Banzais are brilliant as always, Edgington's a great writer, and so far i'm well impressed with malone. Even dante is pretty good, although my problems these days is with John Burns. he's brilliant but Simon fraser is the real dante artist.

What a cover though. Nice one jock. worth the money.

Yeah fair enough on the complete comment, who knows. But if it is a trilogy it would be nice to see the second installment recoloured and if not by MacNeill himself someone who would complement the style of one.

The colouring in America 2 is REALLY bad, maybe it would have been better off in Black and white.

Maybe there's an extreme edition on its way?

Actually what would be really great is if they released a complete America GN when part 3 is finished with part 2 recoloured by McNeill himself.

Whether or which I'm really looking forward to this now, I stopped buying the meg recently but I'll be getting it again for Wagner's genius.

God threads go off topic pretty quickly here don't they! Anyway, i'm delighted to hear that 'Origins' won't be his last Dredd. I picked up prog 1500 this morning and realised how much I had missed Mr. Wagner on dredd. Ah I was gripped by page 2. The man's a genius.

General / Wagnerian Long Walk?

Hi lads,

I'm not sure wether it was here I heard it but is the rumour that 'Origins' is going to be John Wagner's last ever Dredd, true?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, just looking to know.

Cheers

Didn't like the dredd at all I have to say. Verrrry silly, not funny. A real low point was the louis walsh lookalike with the mock Irish accent; 'Oighteen'? Who has ever pronounced it like that? Sorry but that's just shite as we'd say in Ireland. Although I did laugh a bit as I thought the Robo Announcer's comments about the awards ceremony were a good commentary on the story: '...So there you go. All rather bland, if you want the opinion of this robot's autocue'. Pity, cos I like Paul Marshall.

Go Machine! on the other hand was very interesting indeed. Not perfect but very impressive first series. Nice quirks and characters but not overwritten.

Nice one :-)

anderson: Jesus syndrome/childhood's end  is some  of the best stories to ever appear in either comic. Brit cit babes was nutty but cool.

"Talking of which John sent me a nice new copy of History Of Violence with a very nice message written inside. He also sent an extra couple of copies with his scrawl inside the cover so lookout for and easy to win competition coming soon to win a signed copy of HOV. "

You've just reminded me Logan, I got a signed copy of this from his daughter when I was working with her in london a few years ago. Lovely generous girl.

The bill clinton stories were brilliant too. Actually, so many brilliant wagner dredd one offs its silly.

"It also doesn't help that in the long gap between "books" I've completely lost track of where the story is, but I don't think I can be fussed digging out the back issues to catch up."

I know exactly what you mean and I still think its a huge problem with the comic. I do believe when a series returns there should be a recap page giving details of what has gone before. The recent ABC Warriors is a good example too I think, and I can't imagine what new readers will make of Dante when he returns.

I mean even a good synopsis of each story on this site would be a help and then they could print the link in the prog. I think its badly needed.

yeah, he's got a D'Isreali feel alright but more Paul Grist I think.
