Suggestions / Re: Not reading the Meg? Check out...
01 July, 2004, 08:32:19 PM
Somewhat coincidently I was just about to post a thread asking whether the meg was worth a read, so I suppose that's my question answered then! Pity Helltrekkers is halfway through though, I'd like to have read that if only for the fact that I haven't seen it since I was a nipper.
On a different note I was wondering about completing my collection of Best of 2000ad. I found quite a big pile of these in the loft. Anyone know how many this series ran to and what availability is like now?
Cheers Jim.

Or a small law firm situated in an obligatory sleepy village in an episode of Miss Marple :) On the downside Bottomly was the name of a former minister for transport   who truly was a complete arse.

Waaay! That's the one dude. Only difference is on mine the clocks and mudguards ( I refuse to call them "fenders") are black chrome and the wheels are spoked instead of cast. Marketing gimmick for '82 only apparently. Must confess, the one in your pic is somewhat shinier than mine at the mo (Yorkshire weather being a bit of a shock to it after 20 years in California no doubt!)
Cheers Jim.
PS. Any other 2 wheeled road trash out there- own up now!

Hehehe, pissing down again- a typical Brit biker summer. Hard to be easyrider when you're head to toe in bloody waxed cotton aint it :)  Afraid my bikes not as posh as yours chaps though. Haven't the web-fu to do pics so here's a description. 1982 Yam XS650SJ Heritage Special. As you may guess from the cheesy name it's a US import. Have junked indicators, stock lights and tons of wiring and US "safety" gadgets in the interests of simplicity and lightness. Just fitted pair of Mikuni flatslide carbs and set of T-bars, other stuff ongoing as time and funds allow! Oh and it's black, with highlights picked out in.......black.
Take care y'all Jim.
BTW  What's the club name then?:)

Congrats all round Bou. Is that a CG 125 by any chance? I only ask as being an old fart the engine looks familiar but the modern bodywork doesn't! If so it'll outlast Stonehenge as long as you keep the oil topped up and don't rev the knackers off it. Fecking bulletproof motors they are.
Regards Jim.

Congratulations Bou! Bloody well done that squaxx!
So they're still using little factory customs as training bikes then. Get used to that riding position, it'll stand you in good stead when you get your old Triumph.
Best wishes Jim.

Aiiiieeeee! Don't mention the tassles, man! Thankfully the tassled jacket is now an endangered species. Though I will reluctantly confess to owning one back in the early 80's, I must say in my defence that I eventually lopped off the offending tassles. Mainly 'cos I was fed-up of accidently dangling them in other peoples pints and trapping them in doors-causing me to come to a sudden, impromptu comedy halt. No doubt I thought it looked cool at the time, but then I also thought that my dodgy mullet and porn star 'tache were cool too!
Yours,cringing at old photos, Jim.

Rac is right. Lifesaver is the name given to the last look over the shoulder before you change road position on your bike ie: it allows you to spot the burberry cap wearing, rusty Nova driving tit whose decided to overtake you even though you've had your right indicator flashing for the last 200 yards, thereby giving you the chance to avoid buying the farm prematurely.
Wearing decent gear is a must too though so blagging some decent boots, gloves, etc is a wise move. Plus, given your location, I'd be looking out for some decent waterproofs too if I were you :)

Hi Bou. Read somewhere on here that you're going for your bike licence. Good luck gal! When you get it you might like to consider taking a spin to some of the custom bike shows. Good laid-back festival type vibes, variable style/quality bands, loads of beer, freaky bikes (and owners!) and with the added bonus that your tent doesn't get robbed. We'll be going to Rock&Blues custom show (run by Outlaws MC) next month. Check out their site and you'll get the idea. Also check bikersweb or read Back street heroes mag for show dates.
Regards Jim.
PS Don't forget those "lifesavers" when you're on your bike.

News / Re: ...WHAT CARTOON CHARACTERS DO ...
30 June, 2004, 11:24:17 AM
"Ren and Stimpy, anyone?"  Yes please, though it never seems to be on these days. (Foxkids,Cartoon network, etc take note- believe it or not there are cartoons out there that don't involve psuedo-mythical japanese characters who can inexplicably fly, invoke monsters from a pack of crap playing cards and have big spiky haircuts). Other faves are old Tom and Jerry and old Pink Panther show, before they were made PC or had speech/canned laughter added. Wile E Coyote, why is this never on dammit! Whenever an old toon is on it's always Bugs fecking Bunny- the smug long eared git! Bring back Wile E (riding an ACME rocket sledge) NOW!  Honourable mention must also go to Beavis and Butthead, though their antics are uncomfortably close to those of mine and my best mate when we were about 13 yrs old. Oh, and yes PVS. Woody Woodpecker, how many generations has this unfunny twat managed to annoy I wonder.Feed him to Tom and Sylvester now please someone.
Yours insomniacly Jim.

Help! / Re: Techie help please
29 June, 2004, 09:11:03 PM
Thanks guys. Decided on a compromise, partial dismantling and a good rubber-gloving with assorted vacuum attachments has sorted the fecker out. I'm now basking in the luxury of a non-crunchy keyboard. Anyway it gave me something to do as puter's been down for last couple of days.
Cheers Jim.

Help! / Techie help please
26 June, 2004, 07:15:12 PM
Hi dudes. Was just wondering whether I can take my keyboard apart to clean it. It's a see-through Mac "Pro-keyboard" whatever that is. It currently looks (and feels) like it's been salvaged from a bin. You can see all the bits of baccy and biscuit crumbs inside- yuk! I have however noticed some small and enticing allen screws on the back of it and was wondering whether it will:
1. Come apart into user-friendly, easy to clean and reassemble components.
2. Detonate like a cuckoo-clock thrown from the roof of the empire state building, firing springs and other essential unidentifiable widgets into every corner of the room.
So I was just wondering whether anyone actually knows which is the likely scenario. ( I was also wondering whether anyone was enough of a bastard to say "Yeah mate-go for it" knowing full well it'll scatter its guts over a fifty yard blast radius if even looked at with screwdriver in hand, but maybe that's just me being a cynical old git.) Thoughts anyone please?
Cheers Jim.
