QuoteHe gets a bit choppy with his sword, true, but, well, it's him or the demons...

Can I use this as a quote on the back of the collected edition?

The review was illustrated with frames from Mekkosapiens and Jikan, so Locust should be chuffed to see his work get a bigger readership :)

Right, now onto #10. Have you seen mygrimmbrother's cover for it? It's a doozy!

And this is what the latest issue of Comic Heroes had to say about PARAGON#9, giving it 4.5 out of 5.

That'll do :)

Some interesting (and very honest!) replies here - thanks for all of them! It would seem that the answers are; those who read small press want to be (or actually are) involved in it, the Zarjaz gang have the biggest readership (not really surprising considering where we are posting!) around here, and the main problem is getting the comic seen for it to be bought; which means the expense of attending the con circuit.
But where does that leave the digital aspect? Should they only be free? Would you buy an online or downloadable comic? How much of a browse/free sample would you expect to have before committing to buy? Personally I prefer paper copies, but this is an aspect of small press that I'd like to know more about

As a spin off from the 'What attracts you to comics ?' thread, what attracts you to small press comics?

Do you read them? If not, why not?

If you do; Is it reviews online? The cover? The concept? Having a flick through? With these it's unlikely to be a certain writer or artist (or am I wrong?)

Any of you talented chaps able to help out with my latest book? It's a collection of several 8 page stories involving a time travelling, demon hunting Samurai

I have 99.9% of the art in for The Jikan Chronicles Book Two and although Jim Campbell has done a helluva lot of it I'd hate to impose on his goodwill too much - can anyone else chip in?

Books & Comics / Re: What comics/trades do YOU get??
19 February, 2012, 04:50:28 PM
I have a squillion trades and comics on the shelves so I'll take this as currently buying;

2000AD
The Meg
and any collections Rebellion put out that take my fancy
Strip

American Vampire
All Star Western
Mud Man
Hellboy  & BPRD

and a host of small press stuff; Tozo, West, Zarjaz, Spandex, Vanguard, etc

Which brings me to a question - what attracts you to a comic? A known writer or artist? The subject? A review you've read? Maybe you had a flick through in the shop and liked the art? Do you ever buy 'blind'? (ie. read a review or seen a preview online and thought you'd give it a go?) Maybe this should be the start of a new thread?

Comedy actor David Kelly, aged 82.
He may have had a 50 year career but to me he will always be the guy who played one armed Albert in Robin's Nest

When Strontium Dog is the weakest story in the prog, you know it's a damned fine line-up! Completely loving the weekly at the moment, especially the middle trio of stories

Thanks for the feedback Davek - much appreciated!

Sorry you didn't like Battle Ganesh - he was one of the most popular strips during his tenure (although I seemed to be the only one who liked Undertow! :))

There's a different combination of writer and artist on Jikan each issue, so if this one didn't appeal maybe another one will - there are plenty to choose from in the 100 page Jikan Chronicle collection, including the webcomic from 2010; Jikan & The Kappa King which can still be read online here
http://paragoncomic.blogspot.com/2010/05/jikan-and-kappa-king_8995.html
If you like your comics onscreen rather than paper - try downloading another issue via lulu; you may find the new strips more to your taste (and it'll only be 99p)

Or keep an eye on the blog for the new Jikan previews that have been loaded - and there'll be a new web strip in the summer for free!

We have the line-up all decided for the first issue!

This little chap will be hosting the comic

and inside you will find

who will also feature as our cover star, as depicted by Neil Ford

there will also be

and this here's the Major

We will also have two terror tales (scripts now with the artists) and a story called Dark Alliances by Dave Withers (currently doing a slight re-write and yet to have an artist assigned)

Not to mention a 3 panel comedy strip and text pieces on Scream comic and Mummy films!

But we won't tell you the title of the mag until we have the logo designed...

Has that whetted your appetite?
