Film & TV / Re: Name me ONE film, just ONE......

I think they should make a movie out of the fantasy epic that's in my head ,and I'm transcribing from my brain (well, more so than anything else I've writ- as I do know where it's going more or less-;) )

I'm going home next week, which initially will be 'home' home i.e where i used to live in Hemel Hempstead before buggering off to uni, but at some time during, probably, 'home'll turn into a house in Falkirk shared by my parents and my Grandma.

"only wanky intellectuals appreciate it"

Well, saying I don't partake in that particular action from time to time would be , lets be honest here, flat out lying- so not much of an insult.

flattered by the complement, its nice to be regarded as an intellectual

You mean the dull bits aren't there as evidence that Tolkien is over-rated as a writer?*

*Sorry if this is a bit harsh, but I've read an article by Michael Moorcock, and I have to agree with his points- Elric, for example is a far more intiguing character than the goody two shoes Frodo. I prefered the Hobbit to LOTR, it wasn't nearly as po-faced. (one of the other things I think the movie improved on, they actually injected a bit of humour into it (granted mostly through exchanges between Gimlet and Legoland, but still...)

Also, I know i'm not the only one who thinks this due to conversations during some of my Creative Writing workshops, but how many here think the Lord of The Rings movies are better than the books.

Speaking personally I couldn't get very far into the second LOTR book before I gave up.I think they work well as movies as the plot is , to be honest, quite simple, and all the battles etc make a good straight forward enjoyable action flick, whereas I find with the books that the description can make it slow, and there's lots of elements that don't seem to advance the plot or character.(I can quite understanjd why they left the Tom Bombadil(sp?) bit out of the film, and the looong gap between Frodo being told about the ring and actualy doing something about (to me that bit just didn't make any logical sense what so ever)

I would like to hear the opposing argument it has to be said.

no, it is proper continuity- he is refered to as the ninth doctor everywhere- and besides the bit where the doctor was played by rowan et all was a comedy spoof type thing
