Nice one Colin. Stevie had always assumed it was some sort of atrophied tail/aerodynamic stabilizer kind of thingy.

Books & Comics / Re: Borders sale?
16 December, 2009, 02:44:33 AM
Ahhh, that would explain why the Borders down here in Adelaide haven't stocked new release SF since the middle of the year.

Dymocks just 30 seconds up Rundle Mall have quite a healthy SF section at considerably cheaper prices & in better condition. Is it just our store or is it general policy in all Borders that all new releases must be dropped before hiting the shelves?

Same with JB Hifi in the other direction for cds at Aux$10 less that what Borders are charging.

A third book retailer chain, Angus & Robertson, are still doing well, although their SF section uniformly comprises of fantasy with the occaisonal Clarke or Son of Herbert.

So we won't be lacking for stores here in Auxtralia.

None of the above, however, stock Rebellion  >:(

Anyone know when the November pack is supposed to arrive?  Am I still the only Yank here who has gotten the October pack?

Diamond shipped the October pack over here to Auxtralia only last week.

Still haven't gotten round to re-reading September's to remind me what the Dickens is going on.

Makes a big difference from being in orbit afterschool every Wednesday, let me tell ya.

I finished Damnation Alley today. What a great book.

'tis indeed. On the way through did you experience the whole thing drawn in your mind's eye by Bolland & McMahon like Stevie did?

I've just begun Flood by Stephen Baxter (with Ark waiting in the wings). Must say that I'm enjoying it more than the Time's Tapestry books, but geez --& I mean this as a tribute to Baxter's writing-- the opening chapters weren't half gruelling!

The last book of Blood of Satanus.

Oddly enough, when Stevie was flicking his Megs for an example of Dave Taylor's work to show a friend who is an illustrator, he caught sight of Hickleton's Satanus, ripped the Meg from my hands whilst yelling, "Is there a trade of THIS? MAN, THAT IS SO INTENSE!!!"

Now if I win I will let one of our American cousin's have it for the price of postage. Can't say fairer than that.

*cough*cough* Free settlers only here in South Australia, none of those riff-raff who were transported for interfering with loaves of bread  ;)

It should read, "a) A UK resident, and if not, you fuckers are gonna have to fork over the postage fee." We would all shrug and enter without qualm I assure you.

Thirded.

Let's face it, that's better odds than purchasing the trades through Diamond.

The young chap who looks after the SFsection in my local Dymocks*: "So who's your favourite Sci Fi writer?"

Stevie without blinking: "That'd be J G Ballard."

The young chap: "Yes, but how about Sci Fi?"

I've also overheard him describing Asimov's Foundation sequence as Space Opera to a customer

And Johnson the cat for his own series!

Grud yes! This. Needs. To. Happen.

Then we can have a glorious team-up with Pikey.

Would it be too cheeky to suggest a cutaway of Candida de Torquemada's chastity undergarments?

Okay, then...

Cosh will be heartened to hear that someone's taken up his suggestion re: a comfy chair.
