One for the more venerable WhoHeads here. Y'see these? These are the faces that appear during a mental duel in Tom Baker era adventure 'The Brain of Morbius' in which the mind of the Doctor is forced to remember versions of himself seemingly having lived before the advent of his Hartnell incarnation. Always a bit of flummoxer this, but looking at these dapper chaps now, I wonder if the Doctor was not recalling his old, and older, friend The Corsair?

Problems with this: according to The Corsair's creator (a Mr. Neil Gaiman of some reknown) he was killed by The House (of 'The Doctor's Wife') in his ninth incarnation, and whilst there are only eight fine fellows here, at least two lives where female! I suppose she/he could have been a bit of a trannie...what say you?

But now that I look at it, five and six are the same flippin' face, so that leaves two extra lives for the ladies

Which strikes Stevie as being the precise sort of conniving sleight of mind that one would expect of the Doctor.

I liked the Summer Offensive. There, I said it.  There was no way 2000ad could continue with that sort of rudderless editorial policy, but for me it was a welcome relief from the likes of Garth Ennis Dredd, 'updated' Robohunter and Tharg's Dragon Tales .

Really & Truly   is one of Stevie's absolute favourite Grant Morrsion strips EVAH. & that opinion is solely without the need for drugs.

If you dig Ellison's prose just wait until you read Norman Spinrad, Thomas Disch, JG Ballard, Roger Zelazny, Samuel Delaney & the late 60's => mid 70s output of Robert Silverberg. Now that's writing.

That pair of Dredd's he wrote  just before Wagner returned to the prog back in the nineties weren't bad at all.

But not quite as big a leg end as Harlan Ellison believes himself to be.

Am a quarter of the way into his first novel by that other famous Stevie. Being Mister King's latest offering  11/22/63.

The whole Jack Finney vibe, on the other hand, is class.

[The Thing]

We used to see these drop dead gorgeous twin sisters out at gigs all the time. A mate was absolutely besotted with one, but despite much coaxing then outright ridicule he never spoke a word to her for almost a year. No names mentioned. You'll understand why when we get to the punchline.


All of the time her sister would always turn towards us & smile. Smile directly at Stevie.

Which was all very flattering but as he was in a long term relationship he wasn't going there.

Eventually the mate & the object of his desire hit it off.

My girlfriend at the time often worked nights & was very fussy about her music so Stevie & the twins would often be out as part of the same group of friends. The sister would always make sure that she was sat next Stevie & give him a colossal hug before parting.

Once again, he wasn't available so heall was kept platonic.

Fast forward a couple of years. The mate & his girlfriend split up. By coincidence, Stevie was also single again.

The sisters were looking after their parents' house (Mum & Dad were currently holidaying  overseas) in the lead up to relocating to Melbourne.

Stevie was invited over for a movie night.

At his suggestion the film we watched was John Carpenter's The Thing.

Needless to say, neither sister wished to sleep alone that night.
