  Certainly it's possible to like football and comics.  I love football, me, like a lot of Melbourne people.

Now there's a culture that's evelated nerdism into theocracy.

You might remember how shocked people were when BBC's Mastermind started allowing more unusual subjects to be tested during the contestant's specialist rounds in the 90s. You can be tested on Asimov as much as Plato now and yet I think that programme has done a service by showing that 'nerds' who have interests in 'our' subjects can also have a great general knowledge too.

Anyone else recall the bloke who won the international Mastermind play-off (UK, Auxtralia & New Zealand) at least twice consecutively whose special subject was Tolkien's Lord Of the Rings?

What with it being the late 1970s / early 80s you couldn't get any nerdier than that.
