You can find out loads on local archeological stuff in you local library... they'll often keep clipping's file on past digs. There was one a mile from where I'm sat of a Knight's Templer run priory (basically a farm with a small chapel). The prof who did it back in the 60s still hasnt written it up fully yet! We even got a mention in passing on an episode of Time Team, hurrah!

They also found some roman burial stuff in the local quarry.

There's also a Roman Fort somewhere but no ones found it yet (they were supposed to be a every few miles, dead regular along the roman road). Or at least they are not saying. Sometimes those in the know, know of places but keep quite so the place is not robbed out before they get a chance (and the money) to dig it properly

Helmut Newton, photographer of 'strong women' and featured in Practical Photography every other issue thus easing many a teenage boy's journey to manhood had just died in what appears to be a comedy car crash... "Ack this limo is getting to big for me now I'm old and frail, and which one was the break again?"

Well they have tags in some books shops that are just slivers of metal... surly they can't be that expensive. Same with decent security guards, shop detectives etc

They have been talking about photographing everyone picking up Gillete razor blades (most shoplifted item in the uk) in one of the supermarkets but I think they have backed off from that

There was a really scathing piece on them in the Guardian... I liked the way one of the editors was quoted as basically saying they were gonna have tv listings highlighting stuff of interest for blokes like: "A program on sharks or a really good porn film on channel 5". Attentive readers might spot a slight flaw here... like 'really good' going with 'porn film on channel 5'

Loaded, FHM, Maxim, etc The're all a bunch of arse... The whole concept of the so called 'New Lad' were a bunch of middle class over privaledged wankers suddenly discovering football, lager and Micheal Cane. Tossers.

"The new Harry Potter movie will be the shortest one so far" ... from ceefax. Like, yeah, and so what?

Possibly slighly more interesting news is the one after (Goblet of Fire) is projected to be the most expensive movie evah! Costing more than the whole LOTR trilogy put together... madness.

Prohibition of alcohol lead to the rise of organised crime in the states.

Prohibition of drugs has lead to exactly the same thing... 'bout time people realise that the war on drugs is never going to be won.

The reason that cannabis was prohibited in the first place was that it was a poor black mans drug and people feared it would stop them working hard enough...

As ever the late great Bill Hicks said best:

Pot, right. Aaah, they lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Liiie. When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well, you just realise, it's not worth the fucking effort.

There is a difference.

"(toke, toke, toke) Sure I can get up at dawn (toke, toke), go to a job I hate, that does not inspire me creatively whatsoever, for the rest of my fucking life.

Or I can wake up at noon and learn how to play the sitar!"
