General / Re: 2000 AD Where are you in Smiths?

That's not the scene in my local thrill merchant as I bought the last prog in the shop – on a Tuesday – one day before it's usually on sale elsewhere (I think). The previous owner told me "it's a good seller".

I usually prefer to buy it from another thrill merchant over the road from which it doesn't seem to sell so well from, for some reason.

I just finished reading the Judge Child last week in the Case Files. It's the third time I've read it. First time was in the progs, second time in the Eagle US reprints.

It's another world (no pun intended) from Dredd of today. So much humour in places it almost reads as an outright comedy strip. I found it hilarious.

Ron Smith's work on The Judge Child is simply incredible.  McMahon's and Bolland's episodes are great too of course,  but there's something mesmerising about the incredibly complex detail that Smith delivers for page after page, while still making every panel dynamic and crystal clear.  Out of three living gods at the height of their game, Ron somehow comes out on top in this particular story.
Exactly my thoughts.

McMahon's style was and is forever changing. Bolland still somehow managed to get better after the Judge Child quest and I think reached his nadir with the Dark Judges and Block Mania. Ron Smith was firing on all cylinders on the Judge Child. Perhaps I don't marvel at detail in comic art as much as others, but I am amazed at the phenomenal sense of depth in his work. And the expressiveness of the characters he draws puts him on a par with the best. He is our Will Eisner.

Love looking at all that worthy but slightly off the beaten path artwork.

Dez Skinn writes about the design rationale of that era of covers here.

Just wondering which skin moisturiser people on this forum use.

I use Nivea and Boots No7.

I've never experienced the food mountain meals in the US I was looking forward to, though I've only been to New York and Washington DC. I found New York surprisingly European and food portions were on the normal or small side.

I was in the US last year. I must've had a dodgy meal – probably at the swanky boutique type hotel we were staying at. Poor Bloomingdale's in NYC bore the brunt of it.

So 2000AD is next door to Marvel at NYCC.

That's unfair competition. To Marvel.

Not keen on Belgian beers to be honest - they're very strong and always taste quite thick and sickly sweet to me. Prefer something a bit more refreshing.
I know what you mean. Leffe Blonde is rather sweet so I can manage just about one. Feel like a Thai Curry tonight so I might be having one with my meal. Prefer that to Singha.

Very entertaining but as a card carrying fully fledged endomorph who is constantly fighting the battle of the bulge I find this all terrifying!

I won't argue with that gurnard.

Also, I really like bottled Anchor Steam Beer from San Francisco and Brooklyn Beer.

I don't get to drink these much but my favourite beers are bottled Leffe Brune and Duvel (pretty powerful). Living abroad in my twenties it was a bit of a revelation to come across those and other Belgian beers.

As for drinking in boozers, I can't say I ever sat down with a pint in a pub and thought: that's a great beer. Sure, I'll drink as a social thing but I do prefer the bottled stuff. Anything out of the taps always seemed watered down.

I really don't like bitters, ales, whatever. And before anyone says it, yes, I have been to pubs recommended by beer 'connoisseurs'.

As for wine, I enjoy red with a meal. But on its own I find it undrinkable.

Bit of a struggle to keep the weight off so its all in moderation for me.

Looks a bit Ron Tiner to me...
Do you mean Ron Turner? If so, that is what I thought as but not sure.

(There is a POW! annual in a charity shop near me at the moment. Also a Holy Terror going for about £2.50. I picked it up and thought: hmm, no thanks.)
